2017–18 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup
The 2017–18 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. The season began on 28 September 2017 in Hungary and ended on 19 November 2017. The World Cup was organised by the ISU who also ran world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating. The World Cup consisted of just four competitions this year (rather than six) due to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Shaoang Liu (; ; born 13 March 1998) is a Hungarian-born Olympic gold medalist short track speed skater. He is the younger brother of teammate Shaolin Sándor Liu, and has won two golds and two bronzes represent Hungary at the Winter Olympics in 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics in short track speed skating. Wu Dajing (born 24 July 1994) is a Chinese short track speed skater. He is a gold medalist in the Men's 500 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He won a gold medal in the Men's 500m at the 2014 ISU World Championships in Montreal, Canada. He won China's only gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He won the Men's 500 metres, setting an Olympic record (heat) and two world records (quarterfinal and final) while leading wire-to-wire in all three contests en route to capturing the gold. He became only the second person in history to have skated the discipline in under 40 seconds, after American J. R. The Shanghai Oriental Sports Centre (Simplified Chinese: 上海东方体育中心), also known as the Shanghai Aquatic Sports Center, is a sports venue that started construction on December 30, 2008, and was completed in late 2010. The center has an indoor arena named Indoor Stadium seating 18,000, an indoor swimming pool seating 5,000, and an outdoor swimming pool also seating 5,000. Charles Hamelin (born April 14, 1984) is a Canadian retired short track speed skater. In a competitive career that spanned nearly twenty years on the international circuit, Hamelin participated in five Winter Olympic Games ( 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022) and won six Olympic medals, including a national-best four gold medals. Competing in all distances, he won thirty-eight medals at the World Championships, including fourteen gold medals, and also led Canada to five world relay titles. Hamelin was also the 2014 Overall World Cup season winner and the 2018 Overall World Champion, giving him all the achievements available in the sport.
