2017–18 Botswana Premier League
The 2017–18 Botswana Premier League is the 53rd season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1966. The season started on 23 September 2017 and finished on 23 May 2018. Team summaries Promotion and relegation Nico United, Green Lovers F.C., and Mahalapye Hotspurs were relegated from the 2016–17 Botswana Premier League. They were replaced by three teams promoted from the Botswana First Division, the winners of the Northern group TAFIC F.C., the winners of the Southern group Sharps Shooting Stars, and playoff winners Uniao Flamengo Santos. Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League, currently known as the BTC Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or at the southern part of the country until the 2006–07 season when Ecco City Greens made history by becoming the first team from the north to lift the lucrative competition. The league is sponsored by a mobile phone operator Be Mobile to the tune of 30 million pula. 2017–18 Mascom Top 8 Cup
The 2017–18 Mascom Top 8 Cup was the seventh edition of the Mascom Top 8 Cup. It was played from 24 November 2017 to 3 March 2018 by the top eight teams from the 2016-17 Botswana Premier League. It was won by Township Rollers. History The 2017-18 Mascom Top 8 Cup was the only domestic tournament played in Botswana since the FA Cup was not contested. The winner qualified to represent Botswana in the 2018-19 CAF Confederation Cup, but this honour was given to the runners-up Orapa United since the champions Township Rollers had already qualified for the 2018-19 CAF Champions League. 2018–19 CAF Champions League
The 2018–19 CAF Champions League (officially the 2018–19 Total CAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons) was the 55th edition of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the 23rd edition under the current CAF Champions League title. This season followed a transitional calendar which allows the CAF club competitions to switch from a February-to-November schedule to an August–to-May schedule, as per the decision of the CAF Executive Committee on 20 July 2017. It began in December 2018, right after the 2018 season had finished, and ended in May 2019, before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (which had been switched from a January/February to a June/July date). Mochudi Centre Chiefs Sporting Club are a professional football club based in Gaborone, Botswana, who play in the Botswana first division following their relegation from the Premier League in 2019. Centre Chiefs have won the Botswana Premier League, the highest level of Botswana football, four times. The team originates from Mochudi, a large village on the outskirts of Gaborone. History Mochudi Centre Chiefs were founded in 1972 by local elders. Centre Chiefs had their first major success in 2008 when they won the Botswana Premier League.
