Sailing (sport)
The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Most competitions are held within defined classes or ratings that either entail one type of sailing craft to ensure a contest primarily of skill or rating the sailing craft to create classifications or handicaps. On water, a sailing competition among multiple vessels is a regatta, which usually consists of multiple individual races, where the boat crew that performs best in over the series of races is the overall winner. Eilidh McIntyre
Eilidh Jane McIntyre (born 4 June 1994) is a British sailor, who won the gold medal alongside Hannah Mills in the 470 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won the 2019 470 World Championships, and came second at the 2017 470 World Championships. She finished third at the 2015 470 European Championships, and second at the 2019 and 2021 events, as well as having won multiple ISAF Sailing World Cup medals. Career McIntyre joined the British Sailing Team at the age of 15. In 2013, McIntyre and Sophie Weguelin won the Kiel Week 470 event. In 2014, the pair won the US Sailing's Miami Olympic Classes Regatta. McIntyre won multiple medals at the 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup. McIntyre and Weguelin came third at the 2015 470 European Championships. The pair failed to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Martine Grael
Martine Soffiatti Grael (born 12 February 1991) is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Together with Kahena Kunze she won the 49er FX class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Career Martine Grael is the daughter of Olympic gold medalist in sailing Torben Grael. Her brother Marco and uncle Lars also sailed in the Olympics. Stuart Bithell
Stuart Bithell (born 28 August 1986 in Rochdale) is a British sailor and Olympic champion. He competed with Luke Patience in the 470 class at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he won a silver medal and in the 2020 Summer Olympics where he won a gold medal in the Men's 49er class with Dylan Fletcher. In 2013, it was announced that Bithell and Patience would part ways, their aim for 470 gold no longer viable. While Patience continued in the 470, Bithell moved on to partner with John Pink in the 49er class. They failed to qualify for Rio 2016, losing out to Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign. After Rio, Pink and Sign both left the class. This resulted in Bithell and Fletcher teaming up. The decision was made in Portland, while the two competed against each other in the Moth class. Dylan Fletcher-Scott
Dylan James Fletcher-Scott (born 3 April 1988) is a British sailor and Olympic champion in Men's 49er in Tokyo 2020. Fletcher and Alain Sign placed sixth in the 49er event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Starting sailing at age 11 and racing at 13, Fletcher has always sailed double handers. Quickly finding himself at the front of the 405 fleet he moved up into the 29er enjoying similar success including 29er under 19 world champion in 2006 (Weymouth, 2nd in seniors). He then transitioned into the 49er climbing up the ranks collecting medals along the way. Fletcher now sails with Olympic 2012 470 Silver medalist Stuart Bithell.
