Norway participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The Norwegian broadcaster NRK organised the national final ''Melodi Grand Prix 2017'' in order to select the Norwegian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Background Prior to the 2017 contest, Norway had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest fifty-five times since their first entry in . Norway had won the contest on three occasions: in 1985 with the song "La det swinge" performed by Bobbysocks!, in 1995 with the song "Nocturne" performed by Secret Garden, and in 2009 with the song "Fairytale" performed by Alexander Rybak. Norway also had the two dubious distinctions of having finished last in the Eurovision final more than any other country and for having the most "nul points" (zero points) in the contest, the latter being a record the nation shared together with Austria. MaiJazz
MaiJazz is the Stavanger International Jazz Festival in Stavanger, Norway. Since the first MaiJazz in 1989, the festival has presented both international and national musicians. About 200 volunteers organize 40 concerts on 20 venues in and around Stavanger for the 80 to 1800 people visiting MaiJazz. Musicians who have performed at the festival include Pat Metheny, Jan Garbarek, Gotan Project, Nils Petter Molvær, St. Germain, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Youssou N'dour, Joshua Redman, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Bobby McFerrin. Balestrand
Balestrand is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It was located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The administrative center was the village of Balestrand. Other villages in the municipality included Ese, Kvamme, Låne, Sæle, Tjugum, and Vetlefjorden. The municipality was situated at the confluence of the Fjærlandsfjorden/Esefjorden and the main Sognefjorden. The major industries in the municipality were tourism and farming. Balestrand became popular early due to the interest of artists, such as Hans Gude, Kjartan Lauritzen, Alfred Heaton Cooper, Hans Dahl, and Johannes Flintoe. Balejazz
Kviknes Hotel is a hotel, located by the Sognefjord in Sogndal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The hotel has 195 rooms in total which are divided between two buildings. The historic building was completed in 1913 and has 25 rooms, while the building from the 1960s contains 165 rooms. The hotel is a member of the Norwegian association of historic hotels and restaurants – De historiske. The historic building in Swiss chalet style was Norway's largest wooden building when it was completed. The building from the 1960s was built in concrete, and the architecture of the wing is characterized by the passage's typical late modernism. In 2008 the new conference and banquet department was finished. "Kviknesalen" has meeting capacity for up to 450 people. Sámi Grand Prix
The Sámi Grand Prix, often abbreviated as SGP, is a Sámi yoik and song competition organized annually by the Sámi Music Festival organization ( se, Sámi musihkkafestivála, no, Samisk Musikkfestival), featuring participants from all corners of Sápmi. While the majority of its participants have been from the Norwegian side of Sápmi, Sámi from the Swedish, Finnish, and Russian sides have been increasingly participating in recent years too. Each participant submits an original piece to be performed live in an auditorium in Kautokeino during the Sámi Easter Festival. Originally broadcast on the radio in a limited area, they have started to be shown on TV and livestreamed as well and can be watched from anywhere in the world. Listeners and viewers can cast their vote for their favorites in two categories. A combined televoting and jury result is calculated for each participant. Inferno Metal Festival is an annual extreme metal festival that takes place every year during Easter in Oslo, Norway. The festival was founded by Borknagar guitarist Jens F. Ryland in cooperation with Radar Booking in 2001 and takes place at Rockefeller Music Hall. Lineups 2022 The 2022 edition will replace the 2020 edition, cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Voss () is a municipality and a traditional district in Vestland county, Norway. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Vossevangen. Vossajazz
Vossajazz or Vossa Jazz (established 19 December 1973) is an international jazz festival in Voss, Norway, which takes place annually during the week before Easter, and which also includes concerts throughout the year. The festival has been led by Trude Storheim since August 2007. History The first festival in 1974 was held the same weekend as the World Cup in Alpine skiing at Voss. The idea was that ski and jazz fit together. Since 1986 the festival has always taken place during the palm weekend. From 2007, the festival director has been Trude Storheim.
