2017 World Women's Snooker Championship
The 2017 World Women's Snooker Championship was a women's snooker tournament that took place at the Lagoon Billiard Room in Toa Payoh, Singapore, from 13 to 19 March 2017. The event was the 2017 edition of the World Women's Snooker Championship first held in 1976. The event was won by Hong Kong's Ng On-yee, who defeated Vidya Pillai in the final 6–5. Playing time in the final was 8 hours and 4 minutes, making it the longest recorded best-of-11- match, surpassing the previous record of 7 hours and 14 minutes set at the 1992 UK Championship. The event featured a total prize fund of £15,000, with the winner receiving £5,000. On-yee scored the highest break of the tournament, a 76. The competition was sponsored by Eden Resources. World Women's Snooker Championship
The World Women's Snooker Championship (formerly known as the Women's World Open Championship from 1976 to 1981 and the World Ladies Snooker Championship from 1983 to 2018) is the leading tournament on the World Women's Snooker Tour. The reigning champion is Nutcharut Wongharuthai. Beginning in 2022, the women's world champion will automatically receive a place on the main professional World Snooker Tour. Amee Kamani (born 3 June 1992) is an Indian snooker player. She was runner-up in the 2016 International Billiards and Snooker Federation World Snooker championship, losing 0–5 in the final to the defending champion Wendy Jans. Nutcharut Wongharuthai (, ; born 7 November 1999), better known as Mink Nutcharut, is a Thai professional snooker player who is the reigning World Women's Snooker Champion. She and Neil Robertson are also the reigning World Mixed Doubles champions. She is the only woman known to have made a maximum break, having accomplished the feat during a practice match in March 2019. Mink was the World Women's Under-21 Champion in 2018, was runner-up in the 2019 World Women's Snooker Championship and won her first ranking title at the 2019 Australian Women's Open. Waratthanun Sukritthanes (; born 5 December 1993) is a snooker player from Thailand. She was the 2018 IBSF World Snooker Championship Women's Champion, and was the runner-up in 2017. Biography Sukritthanes reached the 2017 IBSF World Snooker Championship Women's final, losing 2–5 to Wendy Jans, who won the tournament for the sixth consecutive time (and seventh overall). A seed is a competitor or team in a sport or other tournament who is given a preliminary ranking for the purposes of the draw. Players/teams are "planted" into the bracket in a manner that is typically intended so that the best do not meet until later in the competition, usually based on regular season. The term was first used in tennis, and is based on the idea of laying out a tournament ladder by arranging slips of paper with the names of players on them the way seeds or seedlings are arranged in a garden: smaller plants up front, larger ones behind. Snooker is a cue sport that is played on a baize-covered table with pockets in each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long side cushions. Katrina Wan Ka Kai (; born 8 March 1988) is a snooker player from Hong Kong. She was runner-up in the 2018 Australian Women's Open. Biography Wan started playing on the women's snooker circuit in 2013. She reached her highest ranking to date, 5th, in October 2018.
