2017 World Rugby Under 20 Trophy
The 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Trophy was the tenth annual international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams, second-tier world championship. The event was held at the Estadio Charrúa and Estadio Domingo Burgueño in Montevideo, Uruguay from 29 August until 10 September and was organized by rugby's governing body, World Rugby. Qualified teams A total of 8 teams played in the tournament. The host (Uruguay) and the Junior World Cup relegation country (Japan) qualified automatically. Alejo Piazza
Alejandro de Vivar (1635–1660), better known as Mestizo Alejo, was a Chilean mestizo, who fought in the Arauco War. He was the son of the Mapuche cacique Curivilú and the Spanish Isabel de Vivar y Castro who was captured during a Mapuche raid. Isabel and Alejo were rescued five years later and rejoined the Spanish society. Alejo enlisted the Spanish army, but the system of castas prevented his promotion. As a result, he deserted from the Spanish army and joined the Mapuches, being appointed toqui. Instructed in Spanish military strategy, he posed a serious threat to his former masters, but he died in a crime of passion: after he had sex with a captured Spanish woman his two wives murdered him. 2016 U-19 Asia Rugby Championship
The 2016 U-19 Asia Rugby Championship is an international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams in Asia. The winners will secure a berth at the 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Trophy. Top division The top division will be hosted by Malaysia from 11–17 December 2016. 2017 Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship
The 2017 Oceania Rugby Under 20s, was the third edition of the Oceania Rugby Junior Championship. The competition was expanded from the previous season with and joining and hosts at Bond University on the Gold Coast. The Oceania Championship was played over three rounds in nine days, with New Zealand defeating Australia by 43–6 in the last match of the round-robin tournament on 6 May 2017, to take the title. The Oceania Trophy was played as a two-match series between Fiji and Tonga, held in Lautoka, Fiji. Both matches finished as draws but Fiji, after securing a four-try bonus point in the second match, won the event. Rugby Americas North, abbreviated as RAN, is the governing body for rugby union in the North American continental region. Rugby Americas North operates under the authority of World Rugby, and is one of six regional unions represented within it. Prior to 2016, the organisation was known as NACRA – the North America Caribbean Rugby Association. The preceding body before 2010 was NAWIRA – the North America and West Indies Rugby Association. The main objective of RAN is the promotion and development of rugby in North America and the Caribbean.
