2017 World Fencing Championships
The 2017 World Fencing Championships was held at the Arena Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany from 19 to 26 July 2017. During the championships there was a demonstration of wheelchair fencing. Russian Ksenia Ovsyannikova was Head of the Promotion Commission of IWAS and Pal Szekeres IWAS Wheelchair Fencing Chairman and Udo Ziegler IWAS Secretary General was also present at the Arena Leipzig Stadium. Daniele Garozzo (; born 4 August 1992) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer. Garozzo is a 2022 team European champion, two-time individual European champion, and four-time team world champion. A two-time Olympian, Garozzo is a 2021 individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 individual Olympic champion. He is the younger brother of Italian épée fencer Enrico Garozzo. Career Garozzo won the 2008 Cadet World Championships at home in Acireale, then took a silver medal in the 2011 and 2012 Junior World Championships. In the 2013 Summer Universiade he was defeated in the semifinals by Russia's Aleksey Cheremisinov and came away with a bronze medal. In the 2014–15 season he climbed his first World Cup podium with a silver medal in the Challenge International de Paris. Glazkov competed in fencing at the junior level, and was part of the winning team in team épée at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenchzhen. Since 2021, he fenced at professional level.
