2017 World Baseball Classic – Qualifier 1
Qualifier 1 of the Qualifying Round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic was held at Blacktown Baseball Stadium, Sydney, Australia from February 11 to 14, 2016. Qualifier 1 was a modified double-elimination tournament. The winners of Games 1 and 2 matched up in Game 4, while the losers faced each other in Game 3, an elimination game. The winner of the elimination game (Game 3) then played the loser of the non-elimination game (Game 4), in Game 5, another elimination game. The remaining two teams then played each other in Game 6, to determine the winners of the Qualifier 1. 2017 World Baseball Classic – Qualification
The World Baseball Classic qualification, Qualifying Round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic was held from February 11 to September 25, 2016. Teams which participated at the 2013 World Baseball Classic were automatically qualified for the 2017 tournament except the four nations which ended up last in their respective groups: Australia national baseball team, Australia, Brazil national baseball team, Brazil, Mexico national baseball team, Mexico, and Spain national baseball team, Spain had to play in the qualifiers along with 12 other national teams. 16 teams participated, divided into four groups of four teams each. The winners of each of the four groups qualified for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Mercy Rule
A mercy rule, slaughter rule, knockout rule, or skunk rule ends a two-competitor sports competition earlier than the scheduled endpoint if one competitor has a very large and presumably insurmountable scoring lead over the other. Mpho' Gift Ngoepe (mm-POH, n-GO-pay; born 18 January 1990) is a South African former professional baseball shortstop and second baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays. In 2017, he became the first native of continental Africa to reach the Major Leagues.
