2017 Thai League T1
The 2017 Thai League T1 (also known as the Toyota Thai League for sponsorship reasons) was the 21st season of the Thai League, the top Thai professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams will compete in the league. The season began on 11 February 2017. Fixtures for the 2017 season were announced on 12 January 2017. Muangthong United are the defending champions, having won the Thai Premier League title the previous season. Thai Honda Ladkrabang, Ubon UMT United and Port have entered as the three promoted teams from the 2016 Thai League 2. Thai League
The Thai League 1 ( th, ไทยลีก 1), often referred to as T1, is the top level of the Thai football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Thai League 2. Seasons run from August to May, with each team playing 30 games (playing all 15 other teams both home and away). It is sponsored by Toyota Motor Thailand and therefore officially known as the Hilux Revo Thai League. In the Thai League, most of the games are played during Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played on Wednesdays and Fridays. 2016 Thai League T1
The 2016 Thai League T1 (also known as the Toyota Thai League for sponsorship reasons) was the 20th season of the Thai League T1, the top Thai professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams competed in the league. The season started on 5 March 2016. Buriram United are the defending champions, having won the Thai Premier League title the three consecutive seasons. Following the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Football Association of Thailand cancelled the remaining league season on 14 October 2016, with three rounds remaining. Muangthong United were therefore crowned champions with BBCU, Chainat and Army United relegated. The following day however (15 October), FAT appeared to do a U-turn and announced that further discussions with key stake holders would determine whether the league campaign would continue. Thai League 2 ( th, ไทยลีก 2), commonly known as the T2, formally called Thai Division 1 League, is the second-tier professional league in the Thai football league system. The top 3 are promoted to Thai League 1 at the end of the season, whilst four are relegated to Thai League 3. For the 2008 season, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) reduced the number of teams in the league to 16 teams. Previously there had been two groups of 12 clubs. For the 2011 season the number of teams was increased to 18 teams, The Thai Division 1 League is a season run from March to October, with teams playing 34 games each totalling 306 games in the season. In 2016, the Khǒr Royal Cup became a trophy for Thai Division 1 League. In 2017 the Football Association of Thailand changed the name to Thai League 2.
