2017 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup
The 2017 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup was the 26th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. It was held in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia from 29 April – 6 May 2017. The number of teams for this year’s cup has decreased by one compared to last year’s tournament where seven teams competed. Pakistan and Canada, who competed previously, will not join this edition and Great Britain had been invited. Great Britain defeated Australia 4–3 in the final to win the cup. Dominic Newman (born 7 November 1996) is a field hockey player from New Zealand, who plays as a midfielder. Personal life Dominic Newman was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand. Career National teams Under-21 Newman debuted for the New Zealand U-21 team in 2016 at the Junior Oceania Cup held in the Gold Coast. Sam Garrett Lane (born 30 April 1997) is a New Zealand field hockey player. Personal life Sam Lane was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and raised in Temuka, New Zealand. Kane Elliot Mark Russell (born 22 April 1992) is a New Zealand field hockey player who plays as a defender for German club Hamburger Polo Club and the New Zealand national team. Russell represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where the men's team came seventh. Thomas Joseph Wickham (born 26 May 1990) is an Australian field hockey player, who plays as a forward. Personal life Tom Wickham was born and raised in Morgan, South Australia. He played representative hockey for his home state South Australia until 2014, when he chose to represent Western Australia at a national level. Edward "Eddie" Clyve Ockenden (born 3 April 1987) is an Australian field hockey player. He plays in the midfielder and striker positions. Faizal bin Saari (born 13 January 1991) is a Malaysian field hockey player. Currently playing as a striker for Terengganu Hockey Team. Career Club Faizal started his Malaysia Hockey League career with Terengganu Hockey Team. He was the 2011 league top goalscorer with 19 goals.
