The 2017 Seattle Sounders FC season was the club's ninth season in Major League Soccer, the United States' top-tier of professional soccer. The Sounders entered the 2017 season as the defending MLS Cup champions. The 2017 season is Brian Schmetzer's first full MLS season as head coach of the Sounders. Seattle Sounders Football Club is an American professional men's soccer club based in Seattle. The Sounders compete as a member of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was established on November 13, 2007, and began play in 2009 as an MLS expansion team. The Sounders are a phoenix club, carrying the same name as the original Sounders franchise that competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1974 to 1983. The club's majority owner is Adrian Hanauer, and its minority owners are the estate of Paul Allen, Drew Carey, and 14 families from the Seattle area. Former USL Sounders coach and assistant coach Brian Schmetzer took over as head coach in July 2016 after the departure of Sigi Schmid. The Sounders play their home league matches at Lumen Field, with a reduced capacity of 37,722 seats for most matches. Fanendo Adi (born 10 October 1990) is a Nigerian footballer who plays as a striker. Club career Europe Following his transfer from AS Trencin, Adi scored a goal in his F.C. Copenhagen debut against FC Vestsjælland on 25 August, despite not having his work and residency permit. In January 2011, Adi, then 20 years old, was invited for a trial by Ajax for the second time. Portland Timbers On 13 May 2014, Adi went on loan with the option to buy to Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. Brandon Vázquez Toledo (born October 14, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. Club career Atlanta United Vázquez signed with Major League Soccer expansion club, Atlanta United, in December 2016 ahead of their inaugural season. The Charleston Battery are an American professional association football, soccer club based in Charleston, South Carolina, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 1993, the Battery are one of the oldest continuously operating professional soccer clubs in the United States, tied with the Richmond Kickers. Andrés Roberto Imperiale (born July 8, 1986) is an Argentine football defender who plays for San Luis in Primera B de Chile. Cordell Cato (born July 15, 1992) is a Trinidadian footballer who last played for Oklahoma City Energy FC in the USL Championship. Career On January 17, 2012 it was announced that Cato had signed with Seattle Sounders. After making 8 competitive appearances in one season, the Sounders declined to pick up a contract option on Cato. Cato's MLS rights were traded to the San Jose Earthquakes on March 1, 2013. Cato's time with the Earthquakes came to an end when his contract expired on December 31, 2017. After his release by San Jose, he trialed with the Earthquakes' arch-rivals LA Galaxy, but ultimately was not signed. Abdul-Fatai Alashe (born October 21, 1993) is an American professional soccer player. Career College and amateur Alashe spent all four years of his college career at Michigan State University where he made a total of 86 appearances for the Spartans and tallied eight goals and eight assists. He also played in the Premier Development League for Reading United and Portland Timbers U23s. Alan Kelly (born 9 April 1975) is a former FIFA Referee from the Republic of Ireland. He has officiated primarily in the Munster Senior League, the League of Ireland and Major League Soccer and was first appointed to the FIFA list in 2002. Kino Sports Complex
Kino Sports Complex is a multiple-use sports complex in Tucson, Arizona. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox formerly utilized the complex's main ballpark, Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, for Cactus League games each March and had their minor league complexes on-site. The ballpark was also home to the Tucson Sidewinders of the Pacific Coast League for the team's last decade in Tucson, running from the stadium's 1998 opening season to the 2008 season. The ballpark was a temporary home (2011–2013) to the Tucson Padres (formerly the Portland Beavers) of the Pacific Coast League during the team's relocation to El Paso, Texas.
