2017 San Francisco Giants Season
The 2017 San Francisco Giants season was the Giants' 135th season in Major League Baseball, their Diamond Jubilee in San Francisco since their move from New York following the 1957 season, and their 18th at AT&T Park. They finished in last place in the National League West with a record of 64–98, the worst record in the National League, as well as their worst record as a team since 1985. The Giants tied with the Detroit Tigers for the worst record in MLB. Incidentally, both teams had competed in the 2012 World Series five years earlier, which the Giants won. National League West
The National League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed for the 1969 season when the National League expanded to 12 teams by adding the San Diego Padres and the Montreal Expos. For purpose of keeping a regular-season of 162 games, half of the teams were put into the new National League East, East Division and half into the new West Division. Within each division, the teams played 18 games each against their five division mates (90 games), and also 12 games against the teams in the opposite division (72 games), totaling 162 games. Geography Despite the geography, the owners of the Chicago Cubs insisted that their team be placed into the East Division along with the teams in New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Marvin Benard
Marvin Larry Benard (born January 20, 1970) is a Nicaraguan former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants. Personal life Benard moved to Los Angeles with his mother and father when he was 12. After a stellar prep career at Bell High School (California), Bell High School, he attended El Camino College (Torrance, CA) freshman year. Chris Heston
Christopher Lee Heston (born April 10, 1988) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played college baseball for East Carolina University and played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants, the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins. Mark David Melancon ( ; born March 28, 1985) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, and San Diego Padres. William Michael Smith (born July 10, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, and Houston Astros. Smith played college baseball at Gulf Coast Community College, and was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the seventh round of the 2008 MLB draft. Eduardo Michelle Núñez Méndez (born June 15, 1987) is a Dominican former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, and the New York Mets. He also played for the Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for one year. Conor Michael Gillaspie (born July 18, 1987) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) third baseman who played for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim between 2008 and 2017. Early life Gillaspie attended Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. Matthew Cody Moore (born June 18, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. 2012 World Series
The 2012 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 2012 season.
