The 2017 South Australian National Football League season (officially the SANFL Macca's League) was the 138th season of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Australian rules football competition. The season commenced on 7 April and concluded with the Grand Final on 24 September. Sturt won their second consecutive premiership and 15th overall, defeating Port Adelaide by 1 point in the Grand Final. Sturt Football Club
The Sturt Football Club, nicknamed The Double Blues, is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Unley, South Australia, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Founded in 1901 by the Sturt Cricket Club, the club initially struggled to make the finals, however, in 1915 they won their first Premiership. After several decades of substantial finals appearances and a few premiership wins, Sturt entered a period of success, winning seven premierships from 1966 to 1976 under coach Jack Oatey. Sturt has a total of 15 premierships, eleven Magarey Medallists and two Night Premierships. Sturt wear Oxford and Cambridge Blue reflecting the street names on which their home ground is based. Hickinbotham Oval
Hickinbotham Oval (currently known as Flinders University Stadium due to naming rights, and originally Noarlunga Oval) is an Australian rules football stadium in Noarlunga Downs, an outer-southern suburb of Adelaide. It has been the home of South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club South Adelaide Football Club (also known as "The Panthers") since 1995. In 2018 the ground was re-named Flinders University Stadium, as part of a five-year sponsorship deal with Flinders University. After 111 years (in two stints, 1882-1903 and 1904-1994) of playing their home games at the Adelaide Oval, (which is located on the northern side of the Adelaide city centre and the Torrens River), the club decided to move to the southern suburb of Noarlunga in the early 1990s. Will Snelling
William Alexander Snelling (born 6 August 1997) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was first drafted by Port Adelaide with their first selection and tenth overall in the 2016 rookie draft. He played his only senior AFL game in Port's twenty-three point win against in round 23, 2016 at Metricon Stadium. He was delisted by Port Adelaide at the end of the 2018 AFL season. Essendon career After being overlooked by all clubs at the 2018 AFL draft, Snelling played for West Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League. Jimmy Toumpas
Dimitri "Jimmy" Toumpas (born 2 January 1994) is a former professional Australian rules footballer best known for his time at the Melbourne Football Club where he played 27 games from 2013 to 2015. He was drafted by Melbourne with the fourth selection in the 2012 AFL draft, after playing for Woodville-West Torrens in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He made his SANFL senior debut late in the 2011 season and he played in Woodville West-Torrens' 2011 premiership side in only his fifth game. Matthew Lobbe
Matthew Lobbe (born 12 February 1989) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Port Adelaide Football Club from 2010 to 2017. The Power's first pick (16) in the 2007 AFL draft spent all of 2008 in the SANFL reserves with the Port Adelaide Magpies. During the 2009 preseason, he put on an additional 8 kg and was seen as a future ruckman. Later on in the 2009 season, he was transferred from the Port Adelaide Magpies to the West Adelaide Bloods in a bid to play regular league football games. Brendon Ah Chee (born 21 December 1993) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Port Adelaide Football Club from 2012 to 2017. An agile midfielder or forward, Ah Chee was recruited from South Fremantle Football Club in the 2011 AFL draft. Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
Woodville-West Torrens Football Club is an Australian rules football club playing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). It was formed in 1990 from an amalgamation of the neighbouring Woodville and West Torrens football clubs and played its inaugural game in 1991. Since 1993, the Eagles have played most of their home games at Woodville's home ground of Woodville Oval, having previously used Football Park.
