2017 Recopa Sudamericana
The 2017 CONMEBOL Recopa was the 25th edition of the Recopa Sudamericana, CONMEBOL Recopa (also referred to as the ''Recopa Sudamericana'', or ), the association football, football competition organized by CONMEBOL between the winners of the previous season's two major South American club tournaments, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. The competition was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Colombian Football Federation, Colombian team Atlético Nacional, the 2016 Copa Libertadores champions, and Brazilian Football Confederation, Brazilian team Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, Chapecoense, the 2016 Copa Sudamericana champions. Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, commonly known as Chapecoense, is a Brazilian Association football, football club, based in the city of Chapecó in the state of Santa Catarina (state), Santa Catarina. Copa Sudamericana
The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, also known as Copa Sudamericana (; ), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL, the governing body of football in South America, since 2002. It is the second-most prestigious club competition in South American football. CONCACAF clubs were invited between 2004 and 2008. The CONMEBOL Sudamericana began in 2002, replacing the separate competitions Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur (that had replaced Copa CONMEBOL) by a single competition. Since its introduction, the competition has been a pure elimination tournament with the number of rounds and teams varying from year to year. Reinaldo Manoel da Silva (born 28 September 1989), simply known as Reinaldo, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Mirassol. Club career Born in Porto Calvo, Alagoas, Reinaldo began his career with Penapolense before moving on loan to Paulista. The 1990 Recopa Sudamericana was the second Recopa Sudamericana, an annual football match between the winners of the previous season's Copa Libertadores and Supercopa Sudamericana competitions. Originally, the title was supposed to be disputed on a two-legged series. Due to security concerns on the eventual, first leg in Colombia and schedule congestion; a neutral stadium was chosen for the match to take place. The Orange Bowl in Miami became the venue for this year's Recopa Sudamericana final. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. LaMia Flight 2933 was a Air charter, charter flight of an Avro RJ85, operated by LaMia, that on 28 November 2016 crashed near Medellín, Colombia, killing 71 of the 77 people on board. The aircraft was transporting the first-team squad of Brazilian football club Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, Chapecoense and their entourage from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, to Medellín, where the team was scheduled to play at the 2016 Copa Sudamericana finals, 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals. 2016 Copa Sudamericana
The 2016 Copa Sudamericana () was the 15th edition of the Copa Sudamericana, South America's secondary club association football, football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals, finals were originally to be played between Brazilian team Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, Chapecoense and Colombian team Atlético Nacional. However, on 28 November 2016, LaMia Flight 2933, which was carrying the Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, Chapecoense squad to the first leg, crashed on the way to the José María Córdova International Airport. There were 71 fatalities, including 19 of the 22 Chapecoense players on the plane.
