The 2017 Portland Timbers season is the 31st season in their existence and the 7th season for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-flight professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The season covers the period from November 16, 2016 to the end of MLS Cup Playoffs. Portland Timbers
The Portland Timbers are an American professional men's soccer club based in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The Timbers have played their home games at Providence Park since 2011, when the team began play as an expansion team in the league. The club was founded in 2009, when the city of Portland was awarded an expansion berth to Major League Soccer. The team operating rights are owned by Peregrine Sports under the majority ownership of Merritt Paulson, whose companies had acquired the then-USL Pro team in 2007 and later established the Portland Thorns women's team in 2012 (all MLS franchises are centrally owned by the league itself, which grants operating rights and privileges to the individual club "owners," who are also shareholders in MLS). Jermaine Taylor (footballer)
Jermaine Omar Taylor (born 14 January 1985) is a Jamaican professional footballer. Club career Jamaica Born in Portland, Jamaica, Taylor started his senior career as a first team regular by the age of 19. While at Harbour View, Taylor won the CFU Club Championship and the National Premier League. In 2009, Taylor moved to Portland to play along with his brother Ricardo Taylor for St. George's SC. Ben Polk
Benjamin Polk (born 19 September 1992) is an American soccer player. Career Polk began his career in the youth setup of Oxford United, but was released after six years with the club. He later signed with local side Banbury United, where he played as a midfielder until 2013 when he accepted a college soccer scholarship at Genesee Community College. After one year with Genesee, Polk transferred to Herkimer County Community College in 2013, and again in 2015 when he spent a year at Syracuse University. While at college, Polk spent time with Premier Development League side K-W United FC in 2015. Chris Konopka
Christopher Konopka (born April 14, 1985) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper. Konopka played for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer from 2013 to 2015 bringing the team to their first ever playoff appearance in club history in 2015. During 2015 he set TFC records for most regular single-season game wins (11) and highest regular single-season win percentage (59.5%) by any Toronto FC goalkeeper in the club's tenure. Christopher Klute (born March 5, 1990) is an American soccer player currently without a club. He most recently played for the California United Strikers FC in the National Independent Soccer Association. Club Atlanta Silverbacks Klute played one season with both Furman University and Clayton State and spent time with the U.S. U-17s before moving to the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves in 2011. Wade Nelson Hamilton (born September 15, 1994) is an American soccer goalkeeper who last played for LA Galaxy II in the United Soccer League. Neco Jeborie Brett (born 22 March 1992) is a Jamaican footballer who plays as a forward for USL Championship club Birmingham Legion. Nick Besler (born May 7, 1993) is an American professional soccer player. Career College Besler spent his entire college career at the University of Notre Dame. He made a total of 72 appearances for the Fighting Irish and tallied two goals and five assists. He also helped the Fighting Irish win the 2013 College Cup. Ben Zemanski (born May 12, 1988 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American retired soccer player and current assistant coach for the Portland Pilots. Career College and Amateur Zemanski attended the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, where he was a 2005 NSCAA All-American, and played college soccer at the University of Akron. Zarek Chase Valentin (born August 6, 1991) is a professional footballer who plays as a right back for Major League Soccer club Minnesota United. A former youth international for the United States, Valentin represents the Puerto Rico national team. Career College and amateur Valentin graduated from Manheim Township High School before enrolling at the University of Akron in 2009. Jack Jewsbury
Jack Jewsbury (born April 13, 1981) is a retired American soccer player who played primarily as a midfielder. Upon his retirement in 2016, Jewsbury was one of ten players to have appeared in more than 350 matches in Major League Soccer. Career Youth and college Jewsbury was born in Joplin, Missouri. He attended Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri, where he scored a state record 59 goals in his senior season and 124 goals in his four-year high school career.
