The 2017 PGA Tour Latinoamérica was the sixth season of PGA Tour Latinoamérica, the main professional golf tour in Latin America, operated and run by the PGA Tour. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 2017 season. Unofficial events The following events were sanctioned by the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, but did not carry official money, nor were wins official. Order of Merit The Order of Merit was based on prize money won during the season, calculated in U.S. dollars. The top five players on the Order of Merit earned status to play on the 2018 Web.com Tour. Developmental Series The 2017 PGA Tour Latinoamérica Developmental Series was the fifth season of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica Developmental Series, the official development tour to the PGA Tour Latinoamérica between 2013 and 2023. José de Jesús Rodríguez Martínez (born 22 January 1981) is a Mexican professional golfer who currently plays on the Korn Ferry Tour. Rodríguez has previously played on the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and the Tour de las Américas. Background Rodríguez grew up in poverty in Irapuato, Mexico. He was one of seven siblings who slept shoulder-to-shoulder on the dirt floor of their one-room, bathroom-less adobe home. At the age of 12, he dropped out of school and began caddying full-time at Club de Golf Santa Margarita. That club is where he learned to golf. At the age of 15, Rodríguez crossed into the United States illegally by crossing the Rio Grande river. He worked in the U.S. for 10 years, mostly at a country club in Fayetteville, Arkansas as part of the maintenance crew. Michael Anthony Buttacavoli (born March 26, 1988) is an American professional golfer who played on Web.com Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and NGA Pro Golf Tour. Amateur career Prior to turning professional, Buttacavoli represented the Rice Owls at college and was their leading golfer during the 2009–10 season. Flor de Caña Open was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica that was played in 2016 and 2017. The tournament was sponsored by the Nicaraguan rum brand Flor de Caña and became the first professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica to be played in Nicaragua.
