2017 Ottawa Redblacks Season
The 2017 Ottawa Redblacks season was the fourth season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Redblacks finished in second place in the East Division with an 8–9–1 record and hosted a playoff game for the third consecutive year. The team lost to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the East Semi-Final in a season where Ottawa hosted the 105th Grey Cup championship at TD Place Stadium. This was the fourth season with Marcel Desjardins as general manager and Rick Campbell as head coach. East Division (CFL)
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. North Carolina Central University
North Carolina Central University (NCCU or NC Central) is a public historically black university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by James E. Shepard in affiliation with the Chautauqua movement in 1909, it was supported by private funds from both Northern and Southern philanthropists. Moton Hopkins
Moton Hopkins (born November 20, 1986) is a former professional Canadian football defensive tackle. He was signed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL) as a free agent in the spring of 2010. He played college football at the University of Tulsa. He has also been a member of the Montreal Alouettes (CFL). Early years Hopkins was a three-year letter winner at Randolph High School. He started three years at both tight end and defensive end and helped lead his team to a 10–2 record both his junior and senior seasons. Nolan MacMillan
Nolan MacMillan (born December 21, 1990) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played in seven seasons for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He is a Grey Cup champion after winning with the Redblacks in 2016 and was named a CFL East Division All-Star in 2019. High school MacMillan attended St. Michael's College School in Toronto. He attended the Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey as a senior. College career MacMillan played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2010 to 2013 while using a redshirt season in 2009. Jerrell Gavins
Jerrell Gavins (born October 24, 1988) is a former professional Canadian football defensive back for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at El Camino College and Boise State. College career Gavins played for El Camino College in 2008 and joined Boise State as a walk-on in 2009. Gavins had three interceptions in the first three games of the 2011 season, but he suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the rest of the season. Taylor Reed
Taylor Reed (born August 7, 1991) is a gridiron football linebacker who is currently a free agent. He played college football at Southern Methodist University. Trevor Harris (born May 31, 1986) is an the United States, American professional Canadian football quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). 104th Grey Cup
The 104th Grey Cup (branded as the 104th Grey Cup presented by Shaw for sponsorship reasons) was a Canadian football game that was played on November 27, 2016, between the Calgary Stampeders and the Ottawa Redblacks, that decided the champion for the 2016 CFL season. In an upset, the Redblacks defeated the heavily favoured Stampeders 39–33 in overtime to win a championship in just their third season of existence. This was the third Grey Cup game to go into overtime (the other two instances came in 1961 and 2005). This also marked a first that a CFL team won its division with a losing record (8–9–1) and became the 3rd worst team (behind the 2000 BC Lions and 2001 Calgary Stampeders who both went 8–10) to win the Grey Cup. 2016 Ottawa Redblacks Season
The 2016 Ottawa Redblacks season was the third season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Redblacks finished in 1st place in the East Division with an 8–9–1 record. This was the first time in CFL history that a team with a losing record finished first in their division. The club failed to match their 12–6 record from the previous season; nevertheless, with their week 19 win in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers the Redblacks repeated as regular season East Division champions, earning a bye to and the right to host the 2016 East Final in the process. 2014 Ottawa Redblacks Season
The 2014 Ottawa Redblacks season was the first season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Redblacks are the third CFL franchise to play in the city of Ottawa, and the first since the suspension of the Renegades in 2006.
