2017 Ole Miss Rebels Baseball Team
The 2017 Ole Miss Rebels Baseball team represented the University of Mississippi in the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Rebels played their home games in Swayze Field. Previous season The Rebels finished the 2016 season 43–19 overall and 18–12 in the conference. The Rebels advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament before suffering elimination at the hands of eventual champion Texas A&M in the semifinals. The Rebels earned regional hosting status in the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, but two straight losses to Utah and Tulane brought the season to an end. 2016 MLB Draft Selections The Rebels had six players selected in the 2016 MLB draft. Marc MacMillan
Marc MacMillan is an American baseball coach and former utility player. He played college baseball at Ole Miss for coach Don Kessinger from 1993 to 1996. He then served as the head coach of the Crichton Comets in 2009. Coaching career MacMillian began his coaching career as the head baseball coach at Memphis University School. On September 16, 2008, MacMillan was hired as the head baseball coach at Crichton College. On January 23, 2014, MacMillan was named Director of Operations at Ole Miss. On January 6, 2016, MacMillan was promoted to volunteer assistant with the Ole Miss. The Miami Marlins are an American professional baseball team based in Miami. The Marlins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East division. Oxford, Mississippi
Oxford is a city and college town in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Oxford lies 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Memphis, Tennessee, and is the county seat of Lafayette County. Graeber Crawley Kessinger (born August 25, 1997) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Houston Astros organization. Amateur career Kessinger attended Oxford High School in Oxford, Mississippi. He was drafted out of high school in the 2016 MLB draft, going in the 26th Round to the San Diego Padres, however he put his professional career on hold to attend the University of Mississippi to play college baseball for the Ole Miss Rebels. As a freshman at Ole Miss in 2017, Kessinger batted only .175 with two home runs and 16 runs batted in (RBIs). In his sophomore year at Ole Miss, Kessinger improved to hit .300 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs. After the 2018 season, he briefly played collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Nicholas Fortes (born November 11, 1996) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021. Amateur career Fortes attended DeLand High School in DeLand, Florida. Undrafted out of high school, he attended the University of Mississippi and played college baseball for the Rebels. Ryan Perry Rolison (born July 11, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Colorado Rockies organization. He played college baseball at the University of Mississippi. Amateur career Rolison attended and graduated from the University School of Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee. As a junior, he compiled a 0.74 ERA with 104 strikeouts. As a senior, he was 9-0 in nine starts, striking out 108 in 58 innings while allowing only three runs and ten hits, earning him the title of Tennessee's DII-A Mr. Baseball.
