2017 OFC Youth Futsal Tournament
The 2017 OFC Youth Futsal tournament was the first edition of the OFC Youth Futsal Tournament (also known as the OFC U-18 Futsal Tournament), the youth international futsal championship organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for the men's and women's national under-18 teams of Oceania. The tournament was held at the Bruce Pulman Arena in Auckland, New Zealand between 4–7 October 2017. The winners of both the men's and the women's competition – with the exception of New Caledonia who are not an Olympic nation – would directly qualify for the futsal tournament at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However the qualifying teams cannot be from the same Member Association, so where a country has entered both the men’s and women’s events, the Member Association must nominate their preferred qualification team. The OFC Youth Development Tournament is an international youth football championship organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). Youth Development Tournament In the first edition of the Youth Development Tournament in 2019, a total of six men's under-18 national teams, including four from Oceania and two from outside Oceania (one from Asia and one from Europe), were invited to participate in the cross-confederation event. For 2021, a U-18 men's tournament and a U-15 boys' tournament are tentatively scheduled between September and December. A women's tournament was originally scheduled for May 2020, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Futsal is a football-based game played on a hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Raphael Ohanua Lea'i Jr. (born 9 September 2003) is a Solomon Islands professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bosnian Premier League club Velež Mostar and the Solomon Islands national team.
