2017 MLS Expansion Draft
The 2017 MLS Expansion Draft was a special draft for the Major League Soccer expansion team Los Angeles FC held on December 12, 2017. Lists of protected rosters and draft-eligible players were released by MLS on December 10, 2017. Format The rules for the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft as laid out by Major League Soccer. * Existing teams are allowed to protect 11 players from their Senior, Supplemental and Reserve Roster. Generation Adidas players and Homegrown Players on supplemental rosters are automatically protected and exempt from the expansion draft. Though players who graduated from the Generation Adidas program to the senior roster at the end of the 2017 season are not exempt. * Only one player may be claimed from each club’s non-protected roster, that team is then eliminated from the expansion draft and not allowed to lose any further players. * The expansion draft will last 5 rounds totaling 5 players to be drafted. Los Angeles Football Club, commonly referred to as LAFC, is an American professional Association football team based in Los Angeles. Laurent Franco Ciman (born 5 August 1985) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a defender. He currently serves as an assistant coach for CF Montréal in Major League Soccer. Club career Charleroi Ciman began his career in the youth system of Charleroi and made his first team debut in 2004. His play with Charleroi attracted the interest of the top Belgian clubs. Mark Bloom
Mark Bloom (born November 25, 1987) is a retired American soccer player. Bloom played as a defender. Career Youth and amateur Born in Marietta, Georgia, Bloom played college soccer at Berry College, where he was a second-team All-Southern States Athletic Conference selection as a junior in 2008, and was his team's MVP in his senior year in 2009. During his time with Berry he helped the school to a 48-26-5 record, two conference titles, and scored 13 goals. Early life Goslin was born in Kingston, Jamaica before moving to Locust Grove, Georgia, in the United States when he was four years old. Carlos Emilio Carmona Tello (; born 21 February 1987) is a Chilean former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Homegrown Player Rule (Major League Soccer)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. That means homegrown players will not count against the salary budget only if they are registered using supplemental roster slots, but will still count against the salary budget if they are registered using senior roster slots.
