2017 Louth Senior Football Championship
The 2017 Louth Senior Football Championship is the 124th edition of the Louth GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Louth, Ireland. The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner going on to represent Louth in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. Seán O'Mahonys were the defending champions after they defeated the St. Mary's Ardee in the previous years final. This was St. Joseph's return to the senior grade after claiming the 2016 Louth Intermediate Football Championship title. This ended their 8-year absence from the senior grade after they were relegated to the I.F.C. in 2008. The draw for the group stages of the championship were made on 9 March 2018. The Louth Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Louth GAA among the top Gaelic football clubs in County Louth, Ireland. The winning club qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Knockbridge
Knockbridge () is a village in County Louth, Ireland. It is located in the townland of Ballinlough (''Baile an Locha'') in the historical barony of Dundalk Upper. As of the 2016 census, the village had a population of 667 people. Knockbridge won a "best kept village" award in the 2008 Tidy Towns competition. Facilities The village is centred on a crossroads, where there is a pub and a shop. There are four housing estates, a Roman Catholic church and a large primary school in the village. Stephenstown House, a large ruined Georgian house, once owned by a branch of the Fortescue family, stands beside the River Fane about a mile outside the village. Stephenstown Pond, about a hundred metres from the house, was redeveloped in the mid-1990s and is a public amenity. Stephenstown Pond has a conference centre and an community enterprise space. Dunleer
Dunleer () is a town and townland in County Louth, Ireland. Dunleer is situated midway between Dundalk and Drogheda and is located on the junction of the R132, R169 and R170 regional roads that intersect the town. Dunleer used to be the principal Town Borough in the Barony of Ferrard and has a Charter dating back to 1252. History The town has ties to the early sixth century Christian monastery of Lann Léire. The monastery, which was located approximately where today Dunleer's Church of Ireland church is now located, suffered numerous attacks over its history and was finally burned to the ground in 1148. After a period of ruin, the Norman family of De Audley settled the area about thirty years later. In 1513, John Barnewall was knighted and received large grants of land in the Dunleer area, including the manor of Dunleer. Dundalk Gaels GFC
Dundalk Gaels GFC is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland which fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organized by Louth GAA. Catchment area The club recruits members from such neighbourhoods as the Carrick Road, Avenue Road, Hill Street, Dublin Road and the Friary school area. Many past and present players of the Gaels were educated at Friary National school. Current status Managed by Cathal O'Hanlon, Gaels are currently the only Dundalk town club competing at senior championship level in Louth football. Their Division 1 League status was lost however after a relegation play-off defeat to Dreadnots in October of 2022. Rivalries The club's principal rivals are cross-town neighbours Clan Na Gael, to whom they lost in the 1992 Louth SFC final replay.
