2017 Laois Senior Football Championship
The 2017 Laois Senior Football Championship was the 127th edition of the Laois GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Laois, Ireland. The tournament consisted of 16 teams with the winner going on to represent Laois in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship had a back-door format for the first two rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two matches will be knocked out of the championship. Stradbally were the defending champions after they defeated Portlaoise in the previous years final. O'Dempseys made a straight return to the senior grade after just one year outside the top flight. For this season Clonaslee St. Manman's amalgamated with Annanough for their championship matches as Clonaslee Gaels. Annanough continue to play in the IFC also. Laois Senior Football Championship
The Laois Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Portarlington are the title holders (2022) defeating O'Dempsey's in the Final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Jack Delaney Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. They often do well outside the county, with the likes of Portlaoise (1971, 1976, 1982, 1987, 2004, 2009) among the clubs from Laois to win at least one Leinster Championship after winning the Laois Senior Football Championship. Crettyard GAA
Crettyard GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Crettyard near Newtown in County Laois, Ireland. The club is located near the Laois-Kilkenny border. History Shortly after the GAA was founded in 1884, there were two clubs in the area: Mayo "Die Hards" and Newtown "sons of Erin". According to ''The Nationalist and Leinster Times'', Newtown played a football game against Modubeagh in 1888, Mayo also played a match against Modubeagh in the Arles club tournament in 1889. An R.I.C. special branch report on the G.A.A. in Queens County in 1890, stated that the Mayo and Newtown clubs were both affiliated. Stradbally GAA (County Laois)
Stradbally GAA is a Gaelic football club in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1889 and its colours are green and white. The club grounds are called Bill Delaney Park after one of the club's most famous sons. Stradbally GAA Club has won 17 Laois Senior Football Championship titles and numerous other titles at junior, intermediate and underage grades. After 18 years in existence the championship of 1905 was won when the team defeated Raheenabrogue by 1-4 to 0-3 at Portlaoise on 21 January 1906. 2016 Stradbally bet Portlaoise in the county championship final and stopped their 10 in a row with a last minute goal. The Heath GAA
The Heath GAA is a Gaelic football, ladies' Gaelic football and rounders club in County Laois, Ireland, located to the northeast of Portlaoise. History The club was founded in 1888. Originally the club was known as St. Patrick's. The club colours were scarlet and grey but nowadays they are black and amber. The Heath have won 10 Laois Senior Football Championship titles, the last of which came in 1993. Killeshin GAA
Killeshin GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association football club in the village of Killeshin, County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white and the club grounds, which are near the Laois/Carlow border, are called Seamus Hearns Park/Pairc Uisean. In 2019, Killeshin reached their first-ever Senior County Final. Killeshin have never won the Laois Senior Football Championship title but they have won the Laois Intermediate Football Championship four times (1958, 1974, 1993 and 2011) and the Laois Junior Football Championship four times (1957, 1969, 1981 and 2008). Graiguecullen GAA
Graiguecullen GFC are a Gaelic Athletic Association club from County Laois, Ireland. The club played in Carlow for many years but in 1926 they were suspended. The club then chose to play in Laois and have been doing so ever since. The club were winners of thirteen Carlow Senior Football Championship titles (the last of which was in 1925) and twelve Laois Senior Football Championship titles, the last of which was in 1965. The club won the Laois Intermediate Football Championship in 2007 in their first attempt to bounce straight back up to senior football, after being relegated for the first time in the club's history in 2006. Ballylinan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club in Ballylinan, County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1926 and has colours of green and gold. Ballylinan Gaelic Athletic Association Club has been a central part of village life since it was founded in 1926. The club is a senior club which provides Gaelic football to all age groups from under six to adult. The club also formerly competed in the Laois Junior Hurling Championship. Courtwood GAA ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coill na Cúirte) is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club, located in the north east corner of County Laois in Ireland. The club is located in the eastern half of Emo parish with a small catchment area south of the village of Ballybrittas and mainly covered by the local school Rath NS. The locality is bordered on one side by County Kildare and by three neighbouring clubs in Laois: Annanough, O'Dempsey's and Emo.
