2017 ITU World Triathlon Series
The 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series was a series of nine World Championship Triathlon events that lead up to a Grand Final held in Rotterdam. The Series was organised under the auspices of the world governing body of triathlon, the International Triathlon Union (ITU). ITU World Triathlon Series
The World Triathlon Championship Series is World Triathlon's annual series of triathlon events used to crown an annual world champion since 2008. There are multiple rounds of competitions culminating in a Grand Final race. Athletes compete head-to-head for points in these races that will determine the overall World Triathlon champion. The elite championship races are held, with one exception, over two distances, the standard or 'Olympic' distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) and the sprint distance (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). The ITU (the former name of World Triathlon) world champion between 1989 and 2008 had been decided in a single annual championship race. Since 2018 a mixed relay series has been run in tandem, where national teams compete in mixed team relays for prize money and Olympic qualifying points. Tom Bishop (triathlete)
Thomas Bishop (born 9 July 1991) is a British triathlete. He has represented England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and finished in 7th place in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series overall standings. Originally from Derby, Bishop graduated from the University of Leeds and is now based in the city, training at the Leeds Triathlon Centre. He was part of the British mixed relay team that won gold at the 2016 Lisbon ETU European Championships and has achieved a number of podiums on both the international and European triathlon circuits, including silver at the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi 2017. Jodie Stimpson
Jodie Lee Stimpson (born 8 February 1989) is a British professional triathlete who also currently competes in the Iron Man distance of the sport. In 2013, she finished runner up in the ITU World Triathlon Series. She has won 3 global titles during her career. She was also Aquathlon World Champion of the year 2006, U23 vice Triathlon World Champion of the year 2008, 2009 British Triathlon Champion and 2010 British Triathlon Super Series winner. Andrea Hewitt
Andrea Hansen (née Hewitt, born 4 April 1982) is a New Zealand triathlete who placed third at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships and competed at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Biography Hewitt was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1982. She lived together with the French triathlete Laurent Vidal, who was also her coach and fiancé, in Sète on the Mediterranean from May to December, and for the rest of the year she returned to Christchurch until his death on 10 November 2015 from a heart attack. Ryan Sissons (born 24 June 1988) is a New Zealand triathlete. Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sissons represented New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics in the triathlon where he finished 33rd. Jacob Birtwhistle (born 4 January 1995) is an Australian Triathlon, triathlete. Running career At the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships – Junior men's race he finished 41st. He was crowned World School Cross Country Champion in 2012 in Malta. Jonathan Brownlee
Jonathan Callum Brownlee (born 30 April 1990) is a British professional duathlete and triathlete. He is a six-time World champion (once World Triathlon Series, twice World Sprint Triathlon, three-time World Triathlon Mixed Relay), and one-time Olympic champion (mixed relay) in triathlon. Brownlee was the 2012 Triathlon World Champion, and the silver medallist in 2013 and 2016. Alistair Edward Brownlee MBE (born 23 April 1988) is a British triathlete. He is the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles in the triathlon event, winning gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. Kristian Blummenfelt (born 14 February 1994) is a Norwegian triathlete and Olympic and World Champion Gold medalist, competing at short course (sprint and standard distance), 70.3 (half-Ironman) and 140.6 (Ironman) distances. He won the gold medal in the men's triathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
