2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship
The 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship was the 20th and final IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship, an international inline hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The World Championship runs alongside the 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship Division I tournament and took place between 25 June and 1 July 2017 in Bratislava, Slovakia at the Ondrej Nepela Arena. The tournament was won by the United States, earning their seventh World Championship title. Finland finished in second place and the Czech Republic in third after defeating Sweden in the bronze medal match. Qualification Seven of the eight teams automatically qualified for the 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship while the eighth spot was awarded to the winner of the 2015 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship Division I tournament. Ondrej Nepela Arena
The Ondrej Nepela Arena ( sk, Zimný Štadión Ondreja Nepelu) (also known as ''Orange Arena'' during the 2011 IIHF Championship, or as ''Slovnaft Arena'') is an indoor arena in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is primarily used for ice hockey and it was the home arena of the KHL's HC Slovan Bratislava. History It opened in 1940 and held 8,350 people until its full reconstruction started in 2009. The reconstructed arena opened in spring 2011 with one of the most advance game presentation, LED scoreboards and security systems ever built. It has increased capacity to 10,055 spectators. In the past Samsung arena was called ''ST Arena'' and ''T-Com Arena''. Reconstruction costs 87 million €. In the arena are also next two ice areas in the training halls. Inline Hockey
Roller inline hockey, or inline hockey is a variant of hockey played on a hard, smooth surface, with players using inline skates to move and ice hockey sticks to shoot a hard, plastic puck into their opponent's goal to score points. The sport is a very fast-paced and free-flowing game and is considered a contact sport, but body checking is prohibited. There are five players including the goalkeeper from each team on the rink at a time, while teams normally consist of 16 players. There are professional leagues, one of which is the National Roller Hockey League (NRHL). While it is not a contact sport, there are exceptions, i.e. the NRHL involves fighting. Unlike ice hockey, there are no blue lines or defensive zones in roller hockey. This means that, according to most rule codes, there are no offsides or icings that can occur during game play. Filip Novák (ice Hockey)
Filip Novák (born May 7, 1982) is a Czech professional ice hockey player. Novak currently plays for Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He has won the Gagarin Cup twice with Dynamo Moscow in 2012 and 2013. Playing career Novák played junior hockey with HC Budejovice in his native Czech Republic and with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League before he was drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round (64th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Jack Combs (born January 26, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for the Allen Americans of the ECHL. Playing career Prior to turning professional, Combs played for the California Wave Midget team for one season and for five seasons with the Kitchener Rangers and Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League. Jakub Petružálek (born 24 April 1985) is a Czech professional ice hockey center playing for HC Litvínov of the Czech Extraliga (ELH). The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments.
