2017 Harrisburg City Islanders Season
The 2017 season was the Harrisburg City Islanders's 14th season of competitive soccer - its first in the second division of American soccer, and its seventh season in United Soccer League. This was the club's final season under its original name, with the club renamed Penn FC (in full, Penn Football Club) shortly after the end of the season. Review For the 2017 season, the City Islanders played all their home matches at FNB Field rather than splitting time between Harrisburg and Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. This decision was made to focus on marketing the team more intently in Harrisburg area. Penn FC
Penn FC (formerly the Harrisburg City Islanders) was an American professional soccer team based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded in 2003, the team most recently played in the USL Pro, the second tier of the United States soccer league system. In October 2018, the club formally announced it will not participate in the 2019 season and would have resume play in 2020 as a member of USL League One, a league in the third tier. On November 15, 2017 the team was rebranded as Penn FC. The rebrand served in conjunction with a partnership with Rush Soccer youth development program. Penn FC served Rush Soccer's professional team and the club's most important piece to their extensive network. The team played its home games at FNB Field on City Island. Travis Brent (born February 17, 1992) is an American soccer defender. Career Youth and college Brent played college soccer at Marshall University between 2010 and 2013. Orlando City B (or OCB for short) is an American soccer club that began play in 2016 and currently plays in MLS Next Pro. Owned by Orlando City SC and based at the Orlando City training facility in Kissimmee, the club plays its home games at Osceola County Stadium. Jonathan Fabian Mendoza Valenzuela (born January 26, 1990) is a Colombian footballer who currently plays for the Rome Gladiators in the National Indoor Soccer League. Career College and amateur Mendoza was born in Colombia, but moved to Altamonte Springs, graduating from Lyman High School in 2009. During his senior year in high school, he was second-team All-American, and first-team All-Central Florida, according to ESPN RISE. Christopher Hill (born March 11, 1994) is an American soccer defender who last played for Penn FC in the USL. Hill grew up in Farmingdale, New Jersey and attended Howell High School. Career Youth and college Hill played soccer at Richmond University in 2012, where he recorded two goals and two assists as a freshman, starting in 16 of the team's 18 matches. After the men's soccer program had been cut by the school, Hill transferred to Villanova University in 2013, where he stayed for three years. In his first season at Villanova, as a sophomore, Hill led the team in goals and points as a midfielder, before switching to a defensive role.
