The 2017 IndyCar Grand Prix at The Glen was the 16th and penultimate round of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series. The race was on September 3, 2017. The pole position was won by Alexander Rossi, the first of his career. Rossi would go on to convert the pole into a win, the second of his career and first on a road course. As of 2022, this is the final IndyCar race at Watkins Glen, as well as the final win for Bryan Herta Autosport as Rossi would move to the #27 car at Andretti Autosport for the 2018 season. The Grand Prix at The Glen was an IndyCar Series race held at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York. American Championship car racing, American open wheel racing at the circuit dates back to 1979. Following a five-year hiatus, Watkins Glen was added back to the schedule for the 2016 IndyCar Series, 2016 season following the cancellation of the proposed Grand Prix of Boston. However, after the 2017 IndyCar Series, 2017 Season, it was announced that Portland International Raceway would be brought back to the 2018 IndyCar schedule, replacing the Watkins Glen event. Watkins Glen International, nicknamed "The Glen", is an automobile race track located in the town of Dix just southwest of the village of Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for twenty consecutive years (1961–1980). In addition, the site has also been home to road racing of nearly every class, including the World Sportscar Championship, Trans-Am, Can-Am, NASCAR Cup Series, the International Motor Sports Association and the IndyCar Series. Alexander Michael Rossi (born September 25, 1991) is an American professional racing driver and podcast host. He currently competes full-time in the IndyCar Series, driving the No. 7 Chevrolet for Arrow McLaren SP. Rossi is best known for winning the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 as a rookie in 2016. He previously drove for Andretti Autosport. Rossi began his career in the United States before moving to Europe as a teenager to pursue a career in Formula One. Scott Ronald Dixon (born 22 July 1980) is a professional racing driver from New Zealand, who competes in the NTT IndyCar Series for Chip Ganassi Racing. Dixon has won the IndyCar championship six times: in 2003, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2020. He also won the 92nd Indianapolis 500 in 2008 from pole position. Ryan Christopher Hunter-Reay (born December 17, 1980) is a professional American racing driver best known as a winner of both the Indianapolis 500 (2014) and the IndyCar Series championship in 2012.
