The 2017 season was the fifth and final season for FC Kansas City, which had competed in the National Women's Soccer League, the top division of women's professional soccer in the United States, since the league's launch in 2013. FC Kansas City folded after the 2017 season and was replaced in the league by a new side owned by Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. The team was one of the eight founding clubs of the National Women's Soccer League in 2012, and began play in 2013. They were two-time NWSL champions, having won titles in 2014 and 2015. Shea Groom
Shea Ellese Groom (born March 4, 1993) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League. Groom played collegiate soccer for Texas A&M Aggies before starting her professional career with FC Kansas City in 2015. She was traded to Sky Blue FC after FC Kansas City ceased operations in 2018, before joining Seattle Reign FC in 2019. She is currently a member of the Houston Dash. Groom is a former United States youth international. She received her first call-up to the full national team in October 2016 but has yet to win a cap. Sydney Rae Leroux (; born May 7, 1990) is a professional soccer player and Olympic gold medalist who currently plays as a forward for Angel City FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Born in Canada to a Canadian mother and an American father, Sydney came up through the Canadian system and represented Canada at various youth levels, until she chose to play for the United States women's national under-20 soccer team starting in 2008 and later began playing for the U.S. senior national team in 2012. The Orlando Pride is a professional women's soccer team based in Orlando, Florida. The team joined the National Women's Soccer League, the top level of women's soccer in the US, for the 2016 season. Yurcak Field is a 5,000 seat soccer-specific stadium on the main campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway Township, New Jersey. Fully acknowledged as The Soccer Stadium at Yurcak Field, it is named in honor of Ronald N. Yurcak, a 1965 All-American Rutgers Lacrosse player. The stadium opened in 1994. Madison Tiernan (born July 3, 1995) is an American former professional soccer player who last played as a midfielder for Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League.
