Francisco Guterres
Francisco Guterres, popularly known as Lú-Olo (born 7 September 1954), is an East Timorese politician who served as president of East Timor from 20 May 2017 to 20 May 2022. He is also the president of the political party Fretilin, and he was the first president of the National Parliament of East Timor from 2002 to 2007. As the Fretilin candidate, he stood in the 2007 presidential election and 2012 presidential election, but was defeated in the second round by independent candidates on both occasions. He also contested the 2017 presidential election, and with the support of former prime minister Xanana Gusmão and the CNRT, was elected the 6th president of East Timor. Guterres ran for re-election in 2022, but was defeated in a landslide in the second round by Ramos-Horta. He is considered a centre-left politician. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Fretilin
The Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor ( pt, Frente Revolucionária de Timor-Leste Independente, abbreviated as Fretilin) is a centre-left political party in East Timor. They presently hold 23 of 65 seats in the National Parliament. Fretilin formed the government in East Timor until their independence in 2002. Ángela Freitas
Ángela Freitas is an East Timorese politician, who is the leader of the Timorese Labor Party and ran in the 2017 East Timorese presidential election. Biography While a student, Ángela Freitas was tortured by the Indonesian Army during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor. In 1988, she worked for the Institute of Human Rights within Indonesia, moving on to work for Amnesty International in 1989 as secretary of human rights. In the 1990s she fled to Australia, where she studied at the University of Queensland. Graduating with qualifications in political science and medicine, she started work at a hospital in Brisbane. This included a secondment into the Royal Australian Navy, where she worked on board a patrol vessel which intercepted refugee boats. The Socialist Party of Timor ( pt, Partido Socialista de Timor, PST) is a Marxist–Leninist political party in East Timor. José Luís Guterres (born 1954 Uato-Lari, Portuguese Timor) is an East Timorese politician and diplomat. Education Guterres studied at the University of Cambridge, the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, the Malaysian Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, and the Institute for Strategic and International Studies in Portugal. Career Guterres was a member of the Central Committee of the former ruling party Fretilin. António da Conceição (born 8 October 1964), also known by his ''nom de guerre'' (), is an East Timorese politician, and a member of the Democratic Party (PD). He has held several Ministries in the government, and as of 2021 was a Member of the National Parliament. Early life and career Conceição was born in , Liquiçá, Portuguese Timor (now East Timor).
