2017 Drive For The Cure 300
The 2017 Drive for the Cure 300 presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina was the 29th stock car race of the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, the third and elimination race of the Round of 12, and the 36th iteration of the event. The race was held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in Concord, North Carolina at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) permanent quad-oval. The race took the scheduled 200 laps to complete. Alex Bowman, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, would control the late stages of the race to win his first and to date, only career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory and his only win of the season. To fill out the podium, Sam Hornish Jr. and Ryan Blaney, both driving for Team Penske, would finish second and third, respectively. Richard Allen Schwieger, known professionally as Rick Allen (born June 17, 1969), is an American television personality, play-by-play announcer, and voice-over artist. He currently is at NBC Sports as the play-by-play commentator for NASCAR's Cup Series and Xfinity Series, on an interim basis for the International Motor Sports Association, and for NBC Sports coverage of track & field. He previously had done play-by-play broadcasting for Fox Sports's coverage of NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series and voice-over work for Goodyear, Sears, Alltel, and Toyota among many others. Ollen Bruton Smith (March 3, 1927 – June 22, 2022) was a promoter and owner/CEO of NASCAR track owner Speedway Motorsports, Inc. He was inducted into NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2016 and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2007. He was billionaire on the Forbes 400 list. A dragstrip is a facility for conducting automobile and motorcycle acceleration events such as drag racing. Although a quarter mile (1320 feet, 402 m) is the best known measure for a drag track, many tracks are eighth mile (201 m) tracks, and the premiere classes will run 1,000 foot (304.8 m) races. The race is begun from a standing start which allows three factors to affect the outcome of the race: reaction time, power/weight ratio, and traction. Matthew Kenneth Tifft (born June 26, 1996) is an American former professional stock car racing driver, and current team owner. Cole Matthew Custer (born January 23, 1998) is an American professional stock car racing driver.
