2017 Cruzeiro Esporte Clube Season
The 2017 season was the 96th in the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's existence. Along with the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the club also competed in the Campeonato Mineiro, the Primeira Liga, the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Sudamericana. This season is marked by Cruzeiro's 5th Copa do Brasil title, won on penalties over Flamengo on 27 September at Mineirão, which ended a 14-year drought of national cups by the club. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube (), known simply as Cruzeiro, is a Brazilian sports club based in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Cruzeiro is mostly known for its association football team. It plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top tier of the Brazilian football league system, as well as in the Campeonato Mineiro, the States of Brazil, state of Minas Gerais's premier State football leagues in Brazil, state league. The club was founded on 2 January 1921, by sportsmen from the Italian colony of Belo Horizonte as ''Palestra Itália''. Rafael Augusto Sóbis do Nascimento (born 17 June 1985) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a forward. Before joining Ceará, Sóbis played for Internacional, Real Betis, Al-Jazira, Fluminense and Tigres UANL. He won the Copa Libertadores with Internacional, and was a runner-up with Tigres in 2015. Tupi Football Club, commonly referred to as Tupi, is a Brazilian professional club based in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais founded on 26 May 1912. Ramón Darío Ábila (born 14 October 1989) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Colón. He is commonly known by the Argentine media as "Wanchope." Alejandro Ariel Cabral (born September 11, 1987) is an Argentine footballer. Club career Vélez Sársfield Cabral started his playing career in 2007 with Vélez Sársfield, during Ricardo La Volpe's coaching era. Ronieli Gomes dos Santos (born April 25, 1991), better known as Roni is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a striker for URT. The 2018 season was the 97th in the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's existence. Along with the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the club also competed in the Campeonato Mineiro, the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores. On 17 October, Cruzeiro won their 6th Copa do Brasil title after defeating Corinthians 2–1 at Arena Corinthians, becoming the biggest champions of the tournament history and the first to win it twice in a row.
