2017 Carolina Challenge Cup
The 2017 Carolina Challenge Cup was the 13th edition of the Carolina Challenge Cup, an annual soccer tournament held in South Carolina by the Charleston Battery. The tournament ran from February 18 to 25, with all matches played at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League (USL), three Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs participated: expansion franchise Atlanta United FC, Columbus Crew SC and defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC. Columbus won the competition with two wins and one draw. The Columbus Crew, formerly known as Columbus Crew SC, is an Soccer in the United States, American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference (MLS), Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. The team is currently operated by an ownership group led by the Haslam family (also owners of the Cleveland Browns and Pilot Corporation) and former team physician Pete Edwards. Wil Trapp
William Alexander Trapp (born January 15, 1993) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder for Major League Soccer club Minnesota United. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Trapp graduated from Lincoln High School, where he was the 2010 NSCAA National High School Player of the Year, and played two years in college at Akron. He signed with Columbus Crew SC as a Homegrown Player, the fourth in club history, and would eventually be named as the club's captain. Trapp wore the armband for Crew SC for the first time on May 17, 2014, and received the nod permanently ahead of the 2017 season. Harrison Afful (born 24 July 1986) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a fullback for Charlotte FC and the Ghana national team. Romario Garfield Williams (born 15 August 1994) is a Jamaican professional footballer who plays as a forward for USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
