2017 All Stars Match
The 2017 All Stars match was the seventh annual representative exhibition All Stars match of Australian rugby. The match was played between the Indigenous All Stars and the World All Stars and for the first time, the match was played outside of Queensland. Mal Meninga took over as coach of the World All Stars from Wayne Bennett. The Indigenous All Stars were selected through public vote from 7 November to 2 December 2016. Both sides were announced on 14 December. Teams 1 - Will Chambers was originally selected to play but withdrew for the birth of his first child. Jack Bird was moved from the bench to Centre and Chambers was replaced by Bevan French. 2 - Sam Thaiday was originally selected to play but withdrew due to injury. Newcastle International Sports Centre
Newcastle International Sports Centre, known as McDonald Jones Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose sports stadium located in Newcastle, Australia. The ground is home to the Newcastle Knights (National Rugby League) and Newcastle Jets FC ( A-League). It is owned by the New South Wales Government and is administered by Venues NSW (which consolidates the operations and responsibilities of the former Hunter Region Sporting Venues Authority and other regional sporting venues authorities into one authority managed by one governing board). Wayne Bennett (rugby League)
Wayne James Bennett AM (born 1 January 1950), also known by the nickname "Benny", is an Australian professional rugby league coach who was signed in late 2021 for three years by the Dolphins in readiness and preparation for their inaugural 2023 season in the National Rugby League competition. He was previously the head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs among other clubs, and a former rugby league footballer. Widely regarded as one of the sport's greatest ever coaches, Bennett holds Australian rugby league coaching records for the most (7) grand final wins and most seasons with a single club (24 with the Brisbane Broncos).
