The 2016/17 Super 8 was the 29th Season of the Super 8 (Handball League), and the 5th since re-organising to the Super 8 name and format in 2012. Warrington Wolves win the League while Hawks finish second. Super 8 (Handball League)
The Premier Handball League is the highest level of men's club handball in England. It is organised by the England Handball Association. London GD Handball Club
Affiliated to the EHA, London GD Handball Club currently has 3 men's and 2 women's competitive handball teams in both the English National and Regional leagues, as well as a Youth Development Programme in place to generate Junior squads. The club which was formerly known as London Great Dane was founded in 1976. Club history London GD Handball Club was previously known as Great Dane Handball Club, and was founded by Anne-Marie Thrysoe and Andrew Ferguson. Established in 1976 by a group of Danish girls involved with the Anglo-Danish Society Students Club, thereof the name of the club, "Great Dane". Throughout the years, the club established itself firmly on the English handball scene, and has become much more than a club with mainly Danish players. In 2010, in a bid to reflect this, the club changed its name to London GD Handball Club and at the same time registered as a limited company. Warrington Wolves
The Warrington Wolves are a professional rugby league club based in Warrington, England, that competes in the Super League. They play rugby at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, having moved there from Wilderspool in 2004. Founded as Warrington Zingari Football Club in 1876, they are one of the original twenty-two clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895 and the only one that has played every season in the top flight. They are nicknamed "The Wire" in reference to the wire-drawing industry in the town. Warrington have local rivalries with Widnes, St Helens and Wigan. Coventry Handball Club
Coventry Handball Club was formed in the aftermath of the 2012 Summer Olympics by Paul Cross and Colin Littlewood. The club has teams in men's and women's EHA Super-8, the men's team promoted from the Championship in 2016. The women's team reached the final of the England Handball National Cup in 2015 and 2016, only to lose to London GD and Olympia, respectively. There had in fact previously been a handball club existing with the same name, playing at the same venue in Coventry, but it had disbanded in 1983. West London Eagles Handball Club
West London Eagles Handball Club is a team handball club based in Gunnersbury Park, West London. The club has men's and women's teams in the EHA national Premier Handball League (former men's Super 8 and women's Super 7 league) and development teams in the South East regional divisions. They also have junior boys' and girls' teams competing in the U14, U16, U19 and U21 competitions. Club history West London Eagles Handball Club was founded in 1972 by Bill Holderness, a GB goalkeeper and were originally based in the old South Ruislip Leisure centre. Originally the teams were largely made up of British players but gradually more overseas players joined the club.
