2016–17 Stanford Cardinal Women's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team represented Stanford University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cardinal, led by 31st year head coach Tara VanDerveer, played their home games at the Maples Pavilion and were members of the Pac-12 Conference. They finished the season 32–6, 15–3 in Pac-12 play to finish in a tie for second place. They defeated Washington State, Oregon and Oregon State to win Pac-12 women's tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament. Earning a No. 2 seed in the Lexington region, they defeated New Mexico State and Kansas State in the first and second rounds. In the Sweet Sixteen, they defeated Texas 77–56. In the Elite Eight, they defeated Notre Dame 76–75 to reach their 13th Final Four in school history. At the Final Four in Dallas Texas, they were defeated by South Carolina 53–62. Tara VanDerveer
Tara Ann VanDerveer (born June 26, 1953) is an American basketball coach who has been the head women's basketball coach at Stanford University since 1985. Designated the Setsuko Ishiyama Director of Women's Basketball, VanDerveer led the Stanford Cardinal to three NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championships: in 1990, 1992 and 2021. She stepped away from the Stanford program for a year to serve as the U.S. national team head coach at the 1996 Olympic Games. VanDerveer is the 1990 Naismith National Coach of the Year and a ten-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year. She is also one of only nine NCAA Women's Basketball coaches to win over 900 games, and one of ten NCAA Division I coaches – men's or women's – to win 1,000 games. Mount Rainier High School is a secondary school in Des Moines, Washington, United States; named for Mount Rainier which can be seen quite well from the school on a clear day. Mount Rainier serves approximately 1700 students and has been active since 1957. Normandy Park is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 6,771 at the 2010 census. History Normandy Park was officially incorporated on June 8, 1953.
