2016–17 Liga MX Season
The 2016–17 Liga MX season (known as the Liga BBVA Bancomer MX for sponsorship reasons) was the 70th professional season of the top-flight football league in Mexico. The season is split into two championships—the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura—each in an identical format and each contested by the same eighteen teams. The fixtures were announced on 9 June 2016. Teams, stadiums, and personnel The following eighteen teams are competing this season. Sinaloa was relegated to the Ascenso MX after accumulating the lowest coefficient last season. Sinaloa will be replaced by the 2016 Clausura Ascenso MX champion Necaxa, who won promotion after defeating the Apertura 2015 winner Juárez in a promotion play-off. The Liga MX, officially known as the Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional football division in Mexico, holding 2 tournaments per year. The league is considered the strongest in North America, and among the strongest in all of the Americas. According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, the league currently ranks 20th worldwide and was ranked as the 10th strongest league in the first decade of the 21st century (2001–2010). Club Atlas
Atlas Fútbol Club () is a Mexican professional football club based in Guadalajara, Jalisco that currently plays in Liga MX. It plays home matches at the Estadio Jalisco. Founded in 1916, Atlas has won three league titles and four domestic cups. Estadio Azul
Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes (English: “Sports City Stadium”; formerly Estadio Azul) is a 33,000-seat stadium located in Ciudad de los Deportes, Mexico City. This sports facility is used for association football matches and for American football as well. The Tazón México has been played at the stadium. It was the home of Mexican football club Cruz Azul until 2018, hence the previous nickname of ''Estadio Azul'', and the Mexico national football team, especially in the early 1990s. In summer 2016, it was announced by Mexico City authorities that plans to demolish the stadium would begin at the end of the 2017-2018 Liga MX season. The Jalisco Stadium is a football stadium located in Guadalajara, Mexico. It is the third largest Mexican football stadium behind Estadio Azteca and Estadio Olímpico Universitario. Estadio Azteca () is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mexico City. It is the official home of football clubs Club América and Cruz Azul as well as the Mexico national football team. The stadium sits at an altitude of above sea level. With an official capacity of 87,523, it is the largest stadium in Mexico and Latin America. The 2015–16 Ascenso MX season is a two-part competition: Apertura 2019 began 25 July 2015 and Clausura 2020. Ascenso MX is the second-tier football league of Mexico. All Ascenso MX teams except FC Juárez and Cimarrones de Sonora, will participate in Copa MX. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX was the second tier of professional football in Mexico of the Mexican football league system. The champion of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top-flight tier). The bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (the third tier). It was sponsored by BBVA through its Mexican subsidiary BBVA, and was officially known as Ascenso BBVA MX. Formerly known as Primera División A (First Division A) the league rebranded in 2009 its name and competition format to Liga de Ascenso. It was rebranded in 2012 as Ascenso MX. Dorados De Sinaloa
Dorados de Sinaloa, or Dorados, is a Mexican professional football club based on Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. History Dorados de Sinaloa was founded on August 9, 2003. The Dorados was the youngest team to play on First Division de México, having joined the division for the first time for the ''Apertura 2004'' tournament when the club was only one year old. The Dorados currently play in the Liga de Expansión MX, the second tier of the Mexican league.
