2016–17 East Of Scotland Football League
The 2016–17 East of Scotland Football League (known for sponsorship reasons as the Central Taxis East of Scotland League) was the 88th season of the East of Scotland Football League, and the 3rd season as the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. The season began on 3 September 2016 and finished on 13 May 2017. Leith Athletic were the defending champions. The league was reduced to a 12-team division following the departure of Civil Service Strollers and Hawick Royal Albert who left to join the Lowland Football League, Craigroyston who left to join the Scottish Junior Football Association and Spartans Reserves who withdrew. 2016–17 Lowland Football League
The 2016–17 Scottish Lowland Football League (known as the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth season of the Lowland Football League, the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. Edinburgh City were the defending champions but could not defend their title after being promoted to Scottish League Two. East Stirlingshire became the first club to join the league via relegation from the SPFL, having lost the League Two play-off against Edinburgh City. Threave Rovers declined the opportunity to re-apply for membership following their bottom place finish the previous season and instead rejoined the South of Scotland Football League. Hawick Royal Albert and Civil Service Strollers joined the league from the East of Scotland Football League to bring the number of clubs to 16 for the first time. Buckie ( gd, Bucaidh) is a burgh town (defined as such in 1888) on the Moray Firth coast of Scotland. Historically in Banffshire, Buckie was the largest town in the county until the administrative area was abolished in 1975. The town is the third largest in the Moray council area after Elgin and Forres and within the definitions of statistics published by the General Register Office for Scotland was ranked at number 75 in the list of population estimates for settlements in Scotland mid-year 2006. Buckie is virtually equidistant to Banff to the east and Elgin to the west, with both approximately distant whilst Keith lies to the south by road. 2016–17 Highland Football League
The 2016–17 Highland Football League started in July 2016 and ended on 22 April 2017. For promotion to Scottish League Two, the league champions playoff with the Lowland Football League champions (or other eligible team from outside the SPFL to be nominated by the Scottish FA), with the winner then playing the team finishing 10th and bottom in Scottish League Two in a promotion and relegation playoff to determine the entrants for the 2017–18 League Two season.
