The 2016–17 Finnish Cup ''(Suomen Cup)'' was the 62nd season of the Finnish Cup. It was the first edition of the tournament to be played on a fall-spring schedule, running from July to September of the following year. The introduction of this new competition format meant that the Finnish League Cup was discontinued. Finnish Cup
The Finnish Cup ( fi, Suomen cup; sv, Finlands cup) is Finland's main national cup competition in football. This yearly competition is open for all member clubs of the FA of Finland and has been played since 1955. The winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa Conference League. Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi (), commonly known as HJK Helsinki, or simply as HJK, is a professional football club based in Helsinki, Finland. The club competes in the Finnish Veikkausliiga. Founded in 1907, the club has spent most of its history in the top tier of Finnish football. The club's home ground is the 10,770-seat Bolt Arena, where they have played since 2000. Generally considered as Finland's biggest club, HJK is the most successful Finnish club in terms of championship titles with 32. The club has also won 14 Finnish Cups and 5 Finnish League Cups. SJK Akatemia (formerly Kerho 07 in 2013–2015) is a football club from Seinäjoki in Finland. The club was formed in 2012 and their home ground is at the OmaSP Stadion. Hyvinkään Palloseura (abbreviated HyPS) is a football club from Hyvinkää, Finland. The club was formed in 1947 and its main home ground is at the Hyvinkään Urheilupuisto. History HyPS played four seasons in the Suomensarja (Finland League), the second tier of Finnish football in 1949, 1951, 1954 and 1965. They also have had three spells covering 19 seasons in the third tier, the Kakkonen (Second Division), in 1975–77, 1987 and 1995–2009. It was a huge disappointment when they were relegated back to the Kolmonen (Third Division) at the end of the 2009 campaign after 15 consecutive years in the Kakkonen. HyPS have had a number of outstanding players but none surpass Pertti Jantunen who played a record 327 games for the club scoring 174 goals.
