2016–17 Copa El Salvador
The Copa El Salvador 2016–17 is the fifth staging of the Copa El Salvador football tournament and the first was played since the 2014–15 edition when the tournament was known as the Copa Presidente. This tournament started on 16 October 2016. Participants This tournament will feature all the clubs from the Salvadoran Primera División, 12 from the Segunda División, and 12 from the Tercera División. Group stage Each group was composed of three clubs: one from Primera División, one from Segunda División and one from the Tercera División. The clubs played a double round-robin for a total of four games each. The 12 group winners and top 4 group runners-up advanced to the knockout stage. Copa El Salvador
The Copa El Salvador is the top knock-out Association football, football tournament in El Salvador. The first edition was played in 1999, resulting champion C.D. Águila of El Salvador. From 2000 to 2006, the competition was played two more times with Atlético Balboa and Once Municipal winning the cup. After a lengthy hiatus that began in 2006, was restored in 2016 The cup is currently sponsored by Claro and thus officially known as the Copa Claro. The Cup tournament is played as a separate tournament from the league (played between First, Second and Third Division). Format Change In 2014, the tournament was briefly brought back played between C.D. Águila, Águila and C.D. FAS, FAS. However, the cup turned out to be a one-off event. Re-launch On June 16, 2016 it was announced that a new cup competition would be played during Apertura 2016 and Clausura 2017. William Maldonado
William Antonio Maldonado López (born January 3, 1990) is a Salvadoran professional footballer, who plays as a midfielder. Club career San Salvador FC Maldonado's professional career began on July 3, 2007 when he signed a contract with now defunct Salvadoran national league club, San Salvador FC. He was one of six players from the El Salvador U17 national team, that would sign for San Salvador that season. The others were Ricardo Orellana, Diego Chavarría, Xavier García, Óscar Arroyo and Fabricio Alfaro. He first gained the attention of league teams as a member of the 2006–2007 El Salvador U17 national team, where he showed a lot of potential, with his creative passing, speed and exceptional free kicks.
