2016–17 Championnat National
The 2016–17 Championnat National season was the 19th season since its establishment. The fixtures were announced on 15 July 2016. Teams There are 18 clubs in the league, with four promoted teams from Championnat de France Amateur replacing the four teams that were relegated from National following the 2015–16 season. All clubs that secured National status for the season were subject to approval by the DNCG before becoming eligible to participate. Team changes As of 14 July 2016, the following teams have mathematically achieved qualification for the 2016–17 season. Evian Thonon Gaillard, who were relegated from Ligue 2, was sent administratively to CFA due to financial troubles. As a result, Épinal were added back to National. Championnat National
The Championnat de France National ( en, French National Championship), commonly referred to as simply National or Division 3, serves as the third division of the French football league system behind Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Contested by 18 clubs, the Championnat National operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2 and the Championnat National 2, the fourth division of French football. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 34 games each, totalling 306 games in the season. Most games are played on Fridays and Saturdays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. Play is regularly suspended the last weekend before Christmas for two weeks before returning in the second week of January. The 2016–17 Championnat de France Amateur was the 19th season of the fourth tier in the French football league system in its current format. The competition was contested by 64 clubs split geographically across 4 groups of 16 teams each. The teams included amateur clubs (although a few are semi-professional) and the reserve teams of professional clubs. Union Sportive Orléans Loiret Football (; commonly referred to as US Orléans or simply Orléans) is a French association football club based in Orléans. Stadium Racing Colmar is a football club located in Colmar, France. They play in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football. History Founded in 1919 as AS Colmar, the club is based in Colmar, Alsace, and plays its home matches at the Colmar Stadium in the city. Teams There are 20 clubs in the league, with three promoted teams from Championnat National replacing the three teams that were relegated to the same level, and three relegated teams from Ligue 1 replacing the three teams that were promoted to the same level. All clubs that secured Ligue 2 status for the season were subject to approval by the DNCG before becoming eligible to participate. The first team to officially join the division for the 2015–16 was Lens, who were relegated from Ligue 1 on 2 May 2015 as results on the day went against them. They were joined a week later by Metz, after a 4–0 home defeat against Lorient. The last relegated club were Evian after a 2-1 defeat on 16 May 2015.
