2016–17 Championnat LNA Season
The 2016–17 Championnat LNA season was the 86th season of the top tier basketball league in Switzerland. Monthey won its third national championship. Competition format All teams played two times against each other for completing 20 games per team. The six first qualified teams joined the group for places 1 to 6 while the other five teams will play the group for places 7 to 11. These two groups will be played with a one-legged round-robin format, where all teams from group 1 to 6 and the two first qualified teams from the group for the seventh position will be qualified for the playoffs. In this intermediate stage, teams start with the points accumulated by the winnings achieved in the first stage. The quarterfinals and the semifinals were played as a best-of-five series while the final in a best-of-seven series. The 2015–16 Championnat LNA season was the 85th season of the top tier basketball league in Switzerland. The season started on October 4, 2014 and ended on May 23, 2016. Competition format All teams played three times against each other for completing 27 games per team. The number of games at home or away are decided by the league table of the previous season. The eight first qualified teams qualified for the playoffs while the two last teams finished the season. There are not any relegations to LNB. The Lugano Tigers are a Swiss professional basketball club that is based in Lugano, Switzerland. The club competes in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), the highest domestic tier. Founded as FN Lugano, the team was re-named to Lugano Snakes in 1999 and to its current name in 2003. History Founded in 1981, with the merging of Federal Lugano and AS Viganello, FV Lugano won the first Swiss Cup in 1982. Fribourg Olympic Basket, commonly known as Fribourg Olympic, is a Swiss professional basketball club that is based in Fribourg. Due to name sponsorship reasons, the former name of the club was Benetton Fribourg. The club is a seventeen-time Swiss Basketball League champion. History Fribourg Olympic competed in seven seasons of the original version of the EuroLeague, the top-level European competition, when it was run by FIBA, due to being the Swiss League champions.
