Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League, currently known as the BTC Premiership for sponsorship reasons, is the highest level football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or at the southern part of the country until the 2006–07 season when Ecco City Greens made history by becoming the first team from the north to lift the lucrative competition. The league is sponsored by a mobile phone operator Be Mobile to the tune of 30 million pula. Botswana Defence Force XI Football Club is a football club from Botswana based in Mogoditshane and playing home games in Gaborone. It is the club of the Botswana Defence Force, being composed mostly of military players. As of 2007, players were eligible to play for the club once they become cadets. Gaborone ( , , ) is the capital and largest city of Botswana with a population of 246,325 based on the 2022 census, about 10% of the total population of Botswana. Mmankgodi is a village in Kweneng District of Botswana. It is located 35 km from Gaborone and around 30 km from the border with South Africa. The population of Mmankgodi was 6,802 in 2011 census. Motlakase Power Dynamos are a Botswana football club from Palapye playing in the second division Botswana First Division North. In the 2015–16 season they were relegated after finishing 14th in the Botswana Premier League. History The club, then called Motlakase FC, won the 2009 Botswana First Division South title with 54 points, eight better than Miscellaneous FC of Serowe, earning them promotion to the Botswana Premier League. They renamed to Motlakase Power Dynamos during the 2009 season break. The club were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2010–11 season. This ended two consecutive seasons of top flight football for the Palapye club.
