The 2016–17 Beşiktaş J.K. season was the club's 113th year since its foundation, 95th season of competitive Association football, football and the club's 58th season contesting the Süper Lig, the top division of Turkish football. Beşiktaş were the defending champions of the Süper Lig, having finished first in 2015–16 Süper Lig, 2015–16. The 2016–17 season lasted from 30 June 2016 to 30 June 2017. Beşiktaş officially began their season on 8 July. The 41,903-capacity Vodafone Park, Vodafone Arena served as the home ground of the club. The club began its competitive season with the 2016 Turkish Super Cup played against Galatasaray S.K. (football), Galatasaray on 13 August 2016, in which they lost 4–1 after Penalty shoot-out (association football), penalty shoot-out. Beşiktaş J
Beşiktaş () is a district and municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European shore of the Bosphorus strait. It is bordered on the north by Sarıyer and Şişli, on the west by Kağıthane and Şişli, on the south by Beyoğlu, and on the east by the Bosphorus. Directly across the Bosphorus is the district of Üsküdar. The district includes a number of important sites along the European shore of the Bosphorus, from Dolmabahçe Palace in the south to the Bebek area in the north. It is also home to many inland (and relatively expensive, upper-middle class) neighborhoods such as Levent and Etiler. Some of its other well-known neighborhoods include Yıldız, Kuruçeşme, Ortaköy, and Arnavutköy. Beşiktaş' historic commercial centre is the quarter and Çarşı (literally, "marketplace"), which adjoins the small Abbasağa Park.
