2016–17 ACF Fiorentina Season
The 2016–17 season was the 90th season in ACF Fiorentina's history and their 79th in the top-flight of Italian football. Fiorentina competed in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Europa League. The club continued its league regression under Paulo Sousa, finishing eighth after an average league campaign, while also being eliminated in the Coppa Italia in the quarter-finals. However perhaps the poorest result of the season was Fiorentina's elimination from the UEFA Europa League in the round of 32 by German club Borussia Mönchengladbach; after winning the first leg 1–0 in Germany and taking a 2–0 lead at home in the second leg, the team managed to concede four straight goals, losing 4–3 on aggregate. The season was Sousa's second and last in charge of the team, as his contract was not renewed for the 2017–18 season. ACF Fiorentina, commonly referred to as Fiorentina (), is an Italian professional Association football, football List of football clubs in Italy, club based in Florence, Tuscany. The original team was founded by a merger in August 1926, while the current club was refounded in August 2002 following bankruptcy. Fiorentina have played at the top level of Italian football for the majority of their existence; only four clubs have played in more Serie A seasons. Fotbal Club FCSB (), formerly named and still sometimes referred to as FC Steaua București, is a Romanian professional Association football, football club based in Bucharest. It has spent its entire history in the Liga I, the top flight of the Romanian football league system. The original ''Steaua București'' football team was founded in 1947 and belonged to the Ministry of National Defence (Romania), Ministry of National Defence, through the namesake CSA Steaua București sports club. Cagliari Calcio, commonly referred to as Cagliari (), is an Football in Italy, Italian football club based in Cagliari, Sardinia, that plays in Serie A, the first tier of Italian football. The club currently plays home matches at the 16,416-seat Unipol Domus. Founded in 1920, they won their first and only ''Scudetto'' in 1969–70 Serie A, 1969–70, when they were led by the Italy national football team, Italian national team's all-time leading scorer, Gigi Riva. The triumph was also the first by a club from south of Rome. Davide Astori
Davide Astori (; 7 January 1987 – 4 March 2018) was an Italian professional footballer who played as a central defender. After playing youth football for Pontisola and AC Milan, Astori started his senior career at Serie C clubs Pizzighettone and Cremonese, playing one season for each while on loan from Milan. In 2008, Cagliari signed him in a co-ownership deal, before signing him fully from Milan, for whom he never made a first team appearance, in 2011. He later spent loan spells at Roma and Fiorentina, before signing with the latter club permanently in 2016; he was subsequently named the team's captain in 2017. Astori made his international debut for Italy in 2011 and represented his country on 14 occasions, scoring one goal, which came in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup third place play off, where he won a bronze medal. Sebastian De Maio
Sebastien De Maio (born 5 March 1987) is a French professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. Aside from France, he has played in Italy and Belgium. Career Born in Saint-Denis, De Maio grew up in Nancy youth team, and in the summer of 2006 he was acquired by Brescia. He made his professional debut on 17 June 2007, in a 2–0 defeat to Rimini. On 24 January 2019, De Maio joined Udinese on loan from Bologna for the rest of the season. Udinese confirmed on 29 May 2019, that they had redeemed the player and he would remain at the club, penning a new three-year contract with the club. On 13 January 2022, he moved to Serie B club Vicenza on a 2.5-year contract. On 28 July 2022, De Maio was loaned to Modena, with an option to buy.
