2016 Ykkönen
The 2016 Ykkönen was the 45th season of Ykkönen, the second highest football league in Finland. The winning team qualified directly for promotion to the 2017 Veikkausliiga, while the second-placed team had to play a play-off against the eleventh-placed team from Veikkausliiga to decide who wod play in that division. The bottom two teams were relegated to Kakkonen. Overview A total of ten teams contested in the league, including six sides from the 2015 season, FF Jaro and KTP who was relegated from Veikkausliiga and GrIFK and KPV who promoted from Kakkonen after winning the promotion play-offs. MP and VIFK were relegated from 2015 Ykkönen. PS Kemi, the champion of 2015 Ykkönen and PK-35 Vantaa, the runner-up of 2015 Ykkönen were promoted to the 2016 Veikkausliiga. Ykkönen
''Ykkönen'' (Finnish for 'Number One'; sv, Ettan) is the second highest level of the Finnish football league system (after the Veikkausliiga), although it is the highest league managed by the Football Association of Finland. The teams also play a pre-season league cup, the Ykköscup. History The first league format competition in the second level of Finnish football was called , which was founded in 1936. Before the inauguration of the , from 1930 to 1935, there had been special qualification matches for the right to play in the ''Mestaruussarja''. In the autumn of 1969, the Finnish football underwent a league system reform, and the was renamed ''II divisioona'', or 2nd Division, with regional sections. Pori Stadium ( fi, Porin stadion) is a multi-purpose stadium in Pori, Finland. It is currently used primarily for football and stadium is the home of FC Jazz and NiceFutis. 2016 Veikkausliiga
The 2016 Veikkausliiga is the 86th season of top-tier football in Finland. The season started on 2 April 2016; the regular season ended on 23 October 2016, with a promotion/relegation playoff continuing until 29 October. SJK were the defending champions. Teams FF Jaro were relegated to Ykkönen after finishing at the bottom of the 2015 season. Their place was taken by Ykkönen champions PS Kemi. KTP as 11th-placed team lost their Veikkausliiga spot after losing to second-placed Ykkönen team PK-35 Vantaa 3–2 on aggregate in a relegation/promotion playoff. PK-35 Vantaa (men)
PK-35 Vantaa (previously Pallokerho-35 or PK-35) was a Finnish men's football team, based in Vantaa. It last played in the Veikkausliiga, the top-tier men's football league in Finland. The team was based at the Myyrmäen jalkapallostadion in the Myyrmäki district of Vantaa at the time of its dissolution, after the 2016 season. History PK-35 was founded in Vyborg in 1935. After the Finnish Winter War and Second World War, PK-35 was refounded in Helsinki in 1948. When PK-35 was coached by Pasi Rautiainen in the mid-1990s they were promoted to Finland's top division, the Veikkausliiga. After some economic troubles, the club's top representative team was acquired by Hjallis Harkimo and renamed FC Jokerit. Palloseura Kemi Kings
The Palloseura Kemi Kings is a Finnish football team based in the town of Kemi, who are currently playing in the Kolmonen. The club have spent three seasons in the top flight in their history. History The club was established on October 21, 1999. Kemi Kings was created out of a merger between Kemin Palloseura (KePS), Kemin Pallotoverit-85 (KPT-85) and Visan Pallo. All three teams continue only as junior teams–having younger than B-juniors–while PS Kemi took over A and B juniors. The best achievement of PS Kemi Kings so far has been reaching eighth place in the Finnish Cup competition 2006. The team also played in Finnish Cup's small final, but lost it to Kultsu FC after the penalty shootout. Vasa IFK
Vasa IFK (VIFK) is a Finnish football club, located in Vaasa. It was founded in 1900. The club changed its name in 1988 after a merger with another club, BK-48, and was called BK-IFK during the late 1900s. The name was changed back to VIFK in year 2000. Their representative team moved up to Ykkönen at end of season 2005 which is the second-highest level in Finland. The visit lasted three years and the team was relegated to Kakkonen after finishing 12th place in the 2008 season. The club has a great history, but has yet to achieve the same kind of success as in the mid-20th century. Vasa IFK have won the Finnish championship three times, in 1944, 1946 and 1953.
