2016 Wexford Senior Football Championship
The 2016 Wexford Senior Football Championship is the 118th edition of the Wexford GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Wexford, Ireland. The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner going on to represent Wexford in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. St. James' Ramsgrange were the defending champions after they defeated St. Martin's in the previous years final, however they relinquished their title to the same outfit at the Quarter-Final stage. This was Glynn-Barntown's return to the senior grade after claiming the 2015 Wexford Intermediate Football Championship title. Adamstown St. Abban's were relegated back to the I.F.C. for 2017 after 20 years as a senior club with two S.F.C. final appearances in this period. Wexford Senior Football Championship
The Wexford Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Wexford GAA clubs. Leinster Senior Club Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament played on a knockout basis between the senior club championship winners of the competing counties in Leinster. The current holders of the Leinster title are Ballyboden St. Enda's from Dublin. Offaly side Gracefield were the first winners of the Leinster senior club football championship in the 1970–71 season. The most successful clubs are St. Vincent's from Dublin and Portlaoise from Laois, who have won the Leinster championship on seven occasions. Carlow club Éire Óg won 5 championships in 7 years in the 1990s. Dublin clubs have won the Leinster championship twenty one times, which is more than double any other county. All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament which began in season 1970–71. It is the top-tier competition for the senior football clubs of Ireland and London. The current champions are Kilcoo of Down who defeated Kilmacud Crokes of Dublin on 12 February 2022 to win their first title. The current trophy is the Andy Merrigan Cup, named after a footballer who played for Castletown Liam Mellows and Wexford who died as a result of a farm accident at the height of his playing career. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Loch Garman) or Wexford GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wexford. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Wexford Park
Chadwicks Wexford Park is a GAA stadium in Wexford, County Wexford, Republic of Ireland. It is the home of Wexford GAA's Gaelic football and hurling teams. After a recent development the ground has a capacity of about 18,000. It is located in the Clonard area on the outskirts of Wexford Town, and although the ground does not have floodlights it regularly hosts evening matches during the brighter summer months. In 2015 a local technology company, Innovate Business Technology, signed a deal for the naming rights to the stadium. The new name unveiled was Innovate Wexford Park. Horeswood GAA
Horeswood GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Wexford, Ireland. The club fields teams in Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and Ladies Gaelic football, and participates in competitions organized by Wexford GAA county board. Early history William K. Redmond's Football Club became the first club from the parish to affiliate to the Wexford GAA in 1889, when Martin Kenny paid 10 shillings to County Treasurer, John J. Kehoe. The following year, the name of the club was changed to Campile Football Club. At the time, the Senior Championship was the only competition the club could enter and Campile Football Club were drawn against Vinegar Hill in the 1st round. The game ended prematurely; Campile claimed a disputed goal and when the referee decided in Campile's favour Vinegar Hill would not accept the decision and refused to continue.
