A general election was held in the U.S. state of Vermont on November 8, 2016. All of Vermont's executive officers were up for election as well as Vermont's Class III Senate seat and at-large seat in the United States House of Representatives. Vermont () is a state in the northeast New England region of the United States. Vermont House Of Representatives
The Vermont House of Representatives is the lower house of the Vermont General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Vermont. The House comprises 150 members, with each member representing around 4,100 citizens. Representatives are elected to a two-year term without term limits. Vermont had a unicameral legislature until 1836. It added a senate by constitutional amendment. The House meets in Representatives Hall at the Vermont State House in Montpelier. It is the only U.S. state legislature whose debating chamber seating layout comes closer to that of the Westminster-style parliament found elsewhere. The Vermont election in 2008 consisted of elections for federal, state, and local elections. All state offices are for two years; all terms expired in 2008. Elections included the gubernatorial, all state offices, including all state senators and representatives, the federal Congress and the presidential. There was no federal Senate seat open. A primary election in August determined which candidates parties would choose to run in the general election in November. An earlier "primary" selected Vermont's choices for candidates for president. Mary Alice "Mal" Herbert (February 28, 1935 - May 13, 2021) was an American schoolteacher and politician from Vermont who ran for vice president as the candidate for the Socialist Party USA in 2004; and ran for many offices in her home state. She and her running-mate, Walt Brown, pulled in 10,837 votes, the highest total for the Socialist Party since 1952. She was married to her husband Fred Herbert until his death in October 2002. Herbert died on May 13, 2021 at the age of 86. Political career Originally a Republican, she became a socialist by the 1960s. James Christos Condos (born January 29, 1951) is an American politician from Vermont. He is a former Vermont Secretary of State and former Democratic member of the Vermont State Senate, representing the Chittenden senate district. The district includes all of Chittenden County, except the town of Colchester. Condos served in the Vermont State Senate from 2001 to 2009. He was succeeded by Tim Ashe.
