2016 United States Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
The 2016 United States Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held from December 2-7, 2015 at the Denver Curling Club in Denver, Colorado. Jason Smith and Jessica Schultz, both from Minnesota, won the tournament. The champions, along with the silver and bronze medal winners, earned a spot in the United States Mixed Doubles World Trials in February 2016, where the U.S. representative for the 2016 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Karlstad, Sweden was decided. Teams Twenty nine teams qualified to compete in the championship. Competition Format Instead of the usual round robin group play leading into playoffs, the 2016 Championship was structured with three tiers of brackets to create a triple elimination tournament. All 29 teams began in the A event bracket, if they lost they moved down to the B event bracket and if they lost again they moved to the C event bracket. Greg Persinger (born February 26, 1978) is an American curler. He was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a member of Team USA at the 2018 World Men's Curling Championship. Sean Beighton
Sean Beighton (born November 22, 1988) is an American curler from Seattle, Washington. Career During his years of junior eligibility, Beighton was active as a skip. He won the national junior championship in 2010, which gave him the opportunity to represent the United States at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships, where he finished in ninth place with a 1–8 win–loss record. Beighton also skipped a team which included former national university champion Blake Morton at the qualifying tournament for the 2013 Winter University Games, but finished third. Beighton played at the 2011 United States Men's Curling Championship as second under Jason Larway, but finished in ninth place and earned the nickname 'Chester.' Monica Walker
Monica Walker (born February 20, 1987) is an American curler originally from Brighton, Massachusetts. She is a three-time national champion. Curling career Walker began curling in 1997. In adult competitions, she placed 4th at the U.S. National Championships in 2012 and again in 2013. In 2016 Walker and Persinger left Roth's team to join Jamie Sinclair as the front end of a new team, with Alex Carlson as third. This new team found success, winning the 2017 U.S. Championships, but missed out on going to the World Championship due to not having enough points on the World Curling Tour.
