2016 Turin Municipal Election
Municipal elections were held in Turin, northern Italy, in May 2016. Chiara Appendino, the candidate of the Five Star Movement, was elected after defeating former mayor Piero Fassino in the runoff. Voting system The voting system is used for all mayoral elections in Italy, in the city with a population higher than 15,000 inhabitants. Under this system voters express a direct choice for the mayor or an indirect choice voting for the party of the candidate's coalition. If no candidate receives 50% of votes, the top two candidates go to a second round after two weeks. This gives a result whereby the winning candidate may be able to claim majority support, although it is not guaranteed. The election of the City Council is based on a direct choice for the candidate with a preference vote: the candidate with the majority of the preferences is elected. Conservatives And Reformists (Italy)
The Conservatives and Reformists ( it, Conservatori e Riformisti, CR or CoR) were a broadly conservative and, to some extent, Christian-democratic and liberal political party in Italy, led by Raffaele Fitto. The CoR emerged in May 2015 from a split from Forza Italia (FI), and is modelled on the British Conservative Party and David Cameron's brand of liberal conservatism, vision and leadership (in the run-up to the 2015 UK general election Fitto, Capezzone and other 28 MPs of their faction within FI had publicly endorsed Cameron in a letter to ''The Telegraph'') and named after the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), the group in the European Parliament in which the Conservatives and Fitto sit. The Communist Party (''Partito Comunista'', PC) is an anti-revisionist Marxist–Leninist communist party in Italy, founded in 2009. It defines itself as "the revolutionary political vanguard organization of the working class in Italy". Since 2013, it is part of the Initiative of Communist and Workers' Parties (INITIATIVE), of which it is one of the founder parties and still the representative for Italy. Marco Rizzo (born 12 October 1959 in Turin) is an Italian politician, leader of the Communist Party (PC) and in 2022 with Sovereign and Popular Italy. Biography A graduate in political science in 1985, he was a lecturer in vocational guidance (1985–1994). From 1986 to 1991, he was a member of the Turin Province party executive of the Italian Communist Party (PCI), and joined the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) in 1991, serving as its representative to the Council of the Turin Province until 1995. Between 1994 and 2004, he served in the Chamber of Deputies of Italy. In 1995–1998, he was coordinator of the National Secretariat of the PRC, then left to become a founding member and Italian Parliament group-leader of the Party of Italian Communists (until 2004). Lega Padana (''Padanian League'') is a Padanist and separatist political party founded in 1999 and active mainly in Piedmont, Italy.
