2016 Texas Longhorns Baseball Team
The 2016 Texas Longhorns baseball team represented the University of Texas at Austin during the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Longhorns played their home games at UFCU Disch–Falk Field as a member of the Big 12 Conference. They were led by head coach Augie Garrido, in his 20th and final season at Texas. Previous season The 2015 Texas Longhorns baseball team notched a 30–27 (11–13) record and finished fifth in the Big 12 Conference standings. The Longhorns won the 2015 Big 12 Conference baseball tournament, earning the Big 12's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Augie Garrido
August Edmun "Augie" Garrido Jr. (February 6, 1939 – March 15, 2018) was an American professional baseball player and coach in NCAA Division I college baseball, best known for his stints with the Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball, Cal State Fullerton Titans and Texas Longhorns baseball, Texas Longhorns. Garrido compiled a collegiate record of 1,975–951–9 and retired in 2016 as the coach with, at the time, the most wins in college baseball history. His win total was surpassed by Mike Martin (baseball coach), Mike Martin of the Florida State Seminoles in 2018. He took his programs to 15 College World Series, winning five of them: three with Cal State Fullerton and two with Texas. He is often considered to be arguably the greatest coach in college baseball history. Tres Barrera
Felipe "Tres" Barrera III (born September 15, 1994) is an American professional baseball catcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Nationals. Early life and amateur career Barrera was born in Eagle Pass, Texas and grew up there until his family moved to the Rio Grande Valley when he was ten years old. He attended Sharyland High School, where he played both football and baseball. He played college baseball at the University of Texas. In 2014, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and returned to the league in 2015 to play for the Orleans Firebirds. Jackie Robinson Stadium is a college baseball park in Los Angeles, California. It is the home field of the UCLA Bruins of the Pac-12 Conference. Opened in 1981, it is the smallest ballpark in the conference, with a seating capacity of 1,820. It is named after former Bruin athlete Jackie Robinson, the first African-American major league baseball player of the modern era. Bobcat Ballpark is a baseball venue in San Marcos, Texas, on the campus of Texas State University. It is home of the Texas State Bobcats baseball team of the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. It currently holds 2,400 spectators. In 2008, the baseball and softball stadiums were renovated and expanded to its current design. In addition, four luxury suites for up to 12 people were added.
