2016 South American U23 Championships In Athletics
The 2016 South American Under-23 Championships in Athletics was the seventh edition of the biennial track and field competition for South American athletes aged under 23 years old, organised by CONSUDATLE. The tournament was held in Lima, Peru at the Villa Deportiva Nacional between 23 and 25 September. Brazil was the dominant nation, winning 19 gold medals in its haul of 33. Colombia placed second with eight golds among its 22 medals. Ecuador and Peru were the next most successful nations. Brazilian sprinter Rodrigo do Nascimento was the most successful athlete of the tournament, taking four gold medals across the 100 metres, 200 metres, and relay races. Three other athletes won two individual gold medals, all of them women; Pía Fernández took a middle-distance double for Uruguay, while Claudine Gimenes won a horizontal jumps double and Izabela Rodrigues a shot/discus double for Brazil. Daniel Ferreira do Nascimento (born 28 July 1998) is a Brazilian long distance runner, owner of the best mark of a marathon runner born outside Africa and record holder in the Americas in the race. In 2020 he took part in the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships, in Gdynia where he ran a personal best of 1:04:27 in the half marathon. In December 2020, he won the 10,000m and finished 3rd place in 5000m at the Brazilian Championship at the COTP stadium in São Paulo. Carlos Maturana (athlete)
Carlos Eduardo Maturana Piña, better known by his artistic pseudonym Bororo, is Chilean artist born in Santiago, Chile, on November 10, 1953. Along with Samy Benmayor, Omar Gatica, Matías Pinto D'Aguiar and Ismael Frigerio among others, he formed part of Chilean art’s 80s Generation. Bororo was his childhood nickname. Biography Bororo studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Chile’s School of Fine Arts and in 1972, he studied under the well-known artists Rodolfo Opazo, Ximena Cristi and Eduardo Garreaud.
